Need a new brand of socks. What say you fellows?

I only wear socks when I get dressed up, and in the autumn in Chicago. For most of the year my feet are buck naked in public.
Not true. I wear socks when I exercise, 1/4 height crew.
I always wear shoes in public, which requires wearing socks. I'm not a sandals or flip flops guy.
Me too, I always wear shoes when I leave the house. No socks, though.

Darn Tough. I think I have a couple pair that are a decade old, still like new.

I was hoping that’s not what you meant. Wearing closed shoes barefoot is really bad for both your shoes and your feet.

Darn Tough™ lifetime-warranty socks. (I have about 7 pair now)
Absolutely +1 Darn Tough.
Another Darn Tough wearer.

Wow... so much Darn Tough love here that I just had to do a quick search on Amazon to get the scoop. $23 for one little pair of socks! 😳 I am all about Die With Zero these days, but this seems pretty exorbitant when you could buy a 6-pack of Adidas quarter socks at Costco for $14!

Do you Darn Tough enthusiasts really feel that they are 10 times better than a mainstream quality brand like Adidas?

I don’t think I paid more than $14 for mine. Some I even got free with my REI dividend.
The cheapo cotton ones don’t don’t wear well, the elastic goes quickly, they pill and they make my feet sweat.
Adidas also has some skeletons in the closet. We chose not to support that brand.

I took a look at those. Price is fine but they have the dark Nike swoosh on top. That's fine when I'm wearing long pants but not with shorts. I don't want a big brand logo on my socks.
I have some of the Nike Dri Fit no show socks and they are very good socks. You won't see the logo plus the no show look a lot better than crew socks when wearing shorts IMO. Now, for those guys that wear shorts and have socks that go up to their knee caps, that's another thread.

Some need to wear compression socks for health reasons. I try not to judge when I don’t know the whole story.

I bought my Darn Tough socks a few years back for $16-18 per pair. I think one of them was $14. On that cheapest pair, I had one sock develop a hole in the toe a year later and returned the pair to them by mail for around $5 postage. Once they received it, they gave me an online credit for one new pair (around $20 IIRC) with free shipping to replace the one with the hole in it.

I haven't had any more holes since.

The closest Costco to us is 100 miles away, so that would be 200 miles round-trip so a membership wouldn't be worth it for us. There is a Wal-Mart quite a bit closer, but I haven't had luck with socks from there in the past.

When I'm not wearing Darn Tough socks, (which are 100% made in the USA) I wear Gold Toe socks, which we bought four 3-pair packs from our local J.C. Penney before they went out of business in our area. Now the closest J.C. Penney is almost 100 miles away. But I think I'm down to 3 or 4 pair left, so the next time we take a road trip to civilization, I'll have to pick up some more.
The Gold Toe men's crew socks are about $18 for 6 pairs.
If you order them online and use the code "Flowers". Otherwise they're $23.50 in store.

I can’t stand the no show socks. I’ve tried them. They’re super uncomfortable.

I never spent much on socks until recently. My golf partner is a sporting goods rep and he gave me a pair of Thorlos. Absolute game changer. For golf and pickleball, Thorlos are now my go to and worth the premium price.

I use the low cut with shorts - they still show a little and are comfortable. I do have some of the no show also, but they are really thin as well, so the comfort isn't the same.

I prefer crew length. I want my ankles covered and then some. I’m just not comfortable in short ones.

I wear crew length with shorts and skorts when I golf. The biggest downside is the 2 tones from tanning. It doesn't bother me too much.

Darn Tough.

I remember TromboneAl saying Darn Tough are the last socks you’ll ever need to buy, due to their lifetime guarantee. If you look at it that way, the extra cost isn’t as bad.

I lost one sock when traveling in Japan. Real bummer. Otherwise, I haven’t had to replace any.

Depends on the activity. Gold Toe for years, especially when working as well as some fancier brands. These days I wear those when travelling in cooler climates or for dress. Winter I usually wear some heavy hiking type socks. The gym is Bomba as well for summer. They are the only no show ones that don't fall off my heel. I'll take a look at Darn Tough but I won't wear fruity colors and patterns - a sock should have a uniform color...just my opinion.

I just buy them on amazon. THey are ok. They wear out, but that's fine. Cheap enough to buy.
