Wow... so much Darn Tough love here that I just had to do a quick search on Amazon to get the scoop. $23 for one little pair of socks! I am all about Die With Zero these days, but this seems pretty exorbitant when you could buy a 6-pack of Adidas quarter socks at Costco for $14!

Do you Darn Tough enthusiasts really feel that they are 10 times better than a mainstream quality brand like Adidas?

I did an ~80 mile backpacking trip. Ditched all cotton. Smartwool branded socks became my new favorite. Comfortable. No blisters. Dry fast. Smell less. Haven't wore a pare of cotton socks since. Tried Darn Tough. I like Smartwool better. My feet are important to me. I don't mind spending the money.

I went to the Darn Tough factory sale a few years ago and bought approx. 40 pairs between DW and me.
They are made in Vermont, and it is only a couple hour, very pleasant drive from NH. I wear Darn tough all winter and a good portion of the summer and always when hiking. Use the low ones in the summer, lighter weight. My favorites are the thick, cushy versions I wear all winter.
Factory price for >40 pair was only $280. The catch is the factory sale are seconds and thus no warrantee.

Best sock I've ever bought. The wool on these socks is a tighter knit and you'll feel it right away. Exceptional quality imo.

Ah, yes, the "smell less" is an important factor! I can wear my Darn Tough socks for several days before I wash them. I take extended trips with a lot of walking and although the tour company usually finds a low-cost pace to get laundry done in the middle of the trip, I hand-wash socks in the meantime, so being able to go a few days between washings was great. I managed with 3 pairs of Darn Tough socks on a trip that lasted almost a month and went from freezing Patagonia to balmy Easter Island.

I was sorely disappointed by the quality of inexpensive cotton crew and tab socks available at Costco a few years ago. On NYT I read about CS Celersport socks and ordered some from Amazon. DH liked mine and ordered some too.
