New Car Advice

Congratulations on making your decision. I hope you have very good experience with your new purchase. Keep us posted on what you like (or not) about your new car.

I bought a Impreza yesterday and absolutely love driving it. The difference is amazing. Subaru now pays their salespeople a salary so no negotiation which is great.

Because it’s a 2024 they offered to come down in price by email the day before my appointment. Now to sell my old car.

AWESOME! Great choice! Enjoy it!

Love the color!
Congratulations!!!

YAY! In under a week too! I laughed, I cried. It was better than Cats!
Drive long & Prosper

congratulations on getting exactly what you want

I agree. I like blue though I've only had one blue car. But, do keep it waxed. That blue color is likely prone to fading/oxidation. Enjoy!
The blue is similar to our new Trax. It's only front-wheel-drive, but we store it for the winter so we don't need AWD.

(not our actual Trax, but a similar one)
Chevrolet markets it as an SUV, but to us, it's more like a small wagon. It's only 3" taller than DWs Cruze, which is considered a compact car.
That Impreza looks like a small wagon as well.
Again, Great color!

Congratulations TT! Love the color and happy for you that you enjoy driving it. YAY!

I am late to the party, to recommend Subaru, but I was glad when I read that you opened up to purchasing one.
I am on my second one, and also happens to be my second car, purchased new. I am confident I am not going back to used (warranty, latest safety, not enough price difference (for me)). Not sure who is going to still be offering manual transmissions in my future, but I hope it can still be found on the sports models. Also not sure when I will age out of stick-shift.
Lastly; you stole my color.

I forgot to mention that I got a 2.9% interest rate on the small loan. I had to work today and do errands and I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed driving it. It’s bigger than my Corolla which is proving a little challenging getting in and out of my parking space. Needless to say I’m being very careful.

I really appreciate all the responses because you guys gave me much to think about and I researched some of the items you all mentioned. It really helped me to consider all the angles. Once again all my friends here I really appreciate all of you!!

I ended up selling my car to Carvana as they offered the best price with the least hassle. I’ve had my car for 2 weeks and driving it is amazing. So much easier to drive than my old car.

The tech guy from Subaru texted me asking if I wanted to make an appointment to have him show me how everything works. I had been reading the book but decided to take him up on the offer. He was really nice and set up everything how I wanted it and made sure I knew how to do everything myself. It took about a hour.

I’m amazed by the service and how nice everyone is. In the past when I’ve bought cars from a dealer they were never very nice or helpful on any return visits. This was true at both the Honda and Volvo dealers.

Great to hear. Enjoy your car. Nice feeling.

Good that you’re off to good start with your dealer. I’ve had mixed results with sales, some very helpful, others your best friend until you sign, then they’re gone.

I’ve been less satisfied with how dealer service departments treat us, and we’ve had mainstream and upscale makes/models. Almost invariably they try to sell owners services you don’t really need, obnoxiously so. And they insist it’s recommended service at exorbitant rates - of course it’s dealer recommended services, not what the manufacturer recommends. I do the latter and almost no more. But you have to get in the habit of questioning every service recommendation and be ready to say no…

Glad I don’t have to deal with dealer service departments much any more with a car designed for little to no regular maintenance.

I wish we had helpful people when/where we got our 2024 Trax LS last year.

The salesgirl (I say "girl" because she was under 30) at the Stealership where we bought our Trax was nice, but not very helpful to us at all. She was all gung ho to tell and show us about our new vehicle once it arrived, but once she learned that we did not own a smart-phone, she said, "Well, I guess you two know more about the vehicle than I do, so off you go! Enjoy! Good luck!".

The only reason we bought it there was because:
1,) They actually had one in stock during the summer of 2023 when we wanted to take a test drive. and
2.) The one we test-drove was not the one we wanted (we wanted silver wheels, analog gauges, and an actual keyed ignition) but they had the exact one we wanted, in the color and with the options we wanted already on order.

Glad to hear you are satisfied with what you got, and also with what you got for your old car. May it provide many miles and years of service for you. 🚙

I know insurance has been mentioned, but some cars report your usage to insurance companies and may raise your rates. See previous thread:

Glad my cars are too old and dumb to do such a thing.

I'm driving a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado that I bought new for $29,900.

It has been a terrific vehicle and I plan on driving it for years to come, it's like an old dog that I can't part with just because its' getting old.

When I do have to replace it I will likely get a brand new pickup. Used pickups (1or 2 years old) don't seem to depreciate much, and you are out 2 years of warranty and are 2 years closer to new tires and battery. These are no small expenses anymore.

Someone mentioned the better financing options available for brand new vehicles. That is another consideration. (I respect Dave Ramsey, but disagree with him on some debt situations. If I can borrow money for under 5% for 6 years, I'm pretty sure I am better off than selling 50k of appreciated equities after taxes).

I drive my vehicles for at least 10 years and I have driven like an old man, even before I became one. I like the idea of knowing I'm the only one who has ever driven the vehicle. Plus, I want to own one more new vehicle while I'm still driving.
While I currently have three Fords (including an F150) and an old Camaro, I bought a used 2003 Chevy Silverado once w/124K miles on it. It was in good shape. I used that truck to carry a LOT of firewood, tow crap, make trips, and so on. Never an issue with it. When it had 184K miles, I decided to buy a new 2015 F150 3.5L Ecoboost (which I still have). I decided to donate the Chevy (valued about 6K so a nice chunk of change) to a local organization. That was 9+ years ago and I STILL see it being driven around the area.

I hope OP doesn't regret getting rid of that bulletproof Corolla over time.
It was a long-ago statement of the Magliozzi brothers of Car Talk radio fame that Subaru is as reliable as anything on the road up to 100K miles, but can get expensive later.

Having owned two Subarus, I believe that it is still a reasonable statement.

Certainly was true for us and our one Subaru - though that was 30 years ago.

Considering I only drive 2700 miles per year if I live 20 more years to 90 and am still driving which are 2 big ifs my car will only have 54k miles on it so I doubt I will ever need a single repair.
