NFL 2024

Love a good upset. They played a great game yesterday.
Yes. But they were not really underdogs. The line turned out to be very wrong.

The 2017 team and forward use the moniker "hungry dogs."

Last night a certain invincible team met bark & awe.

On offense, it seemed the Chiefs had spent all of their time worrying about Barkley that they forgot Jalen knows how to throw and quite well. He had several long through receptions.

On Defense, the Chiefs could not hold the line and Mahomes couldn't scramble his way out.

Great game for the Eagles. Terrible game as far as being a Super Bowl. And I couldn't even understand Kendrick during the Half-time show. Seemed patriotic, but I sadly don't actually know.
cd : O)

I heard the half time show was the worst ever (I didn't watch). I guess that fits with the game.
I actually thought it was pretty good, and I am not one who is up to date with Rap, etc.

The game was quite surprising, I am thinking Travis may retire soon.

I couldn't understand a word Lamar Kendrick was saying/rapping/singing. So I used my Google Pixel phone's built in music recognition app and it would tell me the title of the "song" that was playing. I would quickly ask Google to show the lyrics to the song. Most of it was about life in the hood with Lamar skipping over the cuss words (which were abundant and frequent.) If anyone cares to check it out here is the playlist:

Squabble Up
Humble
Euphoria
Peekaboo
Luther
Not Like Us
TV Off

Just Google <title> and lyrics, i.e. "Not Like Us lyrics". You might be surprised, shocked, even.

It was pretty bad, IMO... But maybe I'm just getting old....

We've turned into our parents. I can still remember my parents questioning why I listened to the non-sensical noise called "rock music." Now that we're old, some of us take the same view.

If you analyze it rap and/or hip hop is essentially a poet speed reading the lyrics with a bass drum and a bass guitar thumping in the background. There is no melody. Rock had a melody, and singers that carried a tune.

"Pretty bad" has got to be the understatement of the day. There's no pretty about it... just outright, straight up BAD. And this is the guy who won the Grammy award for record of the year a week ago! So the music industry folks think he is actually "the best" in some sense... the cream of the crop. His music (if you can call it that) is profane, vulgar, sophomoric, atonal garbage, to put it kindly. He makes Snoop Doggy Dogg seem like Beethoven by comparison. Just go listen to a few of his "songs" on YouTube, but my advice would be to do it on an empty stomach.

Look, I know all art (including music) is highly subjective and that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But IMHO to call anything by Kendrick Lamar "poetry" strains credibility beyond the breaking point. I just watched two of his music videos on YouTube with closed captioning turned on, and the words are just... trashy, simple-minded, lowbrow dreck. I absolutely cannot believe we live in a world where this guy won a Grammy award for his music. It's 100% garbage.

I was referring to rap and hip hop "music" in general. It's bad poetry sped read with a bass beat backing. I agree that there isn't much poetry Kendrick Lamar's "music", but there is in most other hip hop.

I'm sure it's horrible. I'm not even going to subject myself to sampling it. I don't like that type of music. I didn't watch any of the half time entertainment, just a little of the talking heads talk about the game.

I did see part of the Lady Gaga thing in the pregame, which was ok, but I couldn't handle listening to the whole thing of that, either. lol

He's a generational talent.
This is very much the case IMHO. The NFL has a real viewership problem with younger generations and the halftime show is one initiative to address it.

The NFL execs that chose halftime show talent are not concerned that us oldsters didn’t like the show. after all, no one stopped watching the game in protest.

They’re probably reading these complaints and feeling they got it right.

I enjoyed the halftime show even though I'm not a big fan of rap. Thought the dancers/costumes were great. Liked seeing Serena Williams do her crip walk.

The only issue I had with the Super Bowl is watching the commercials. Normally I would watch at home and skip through them. But I was over someone's house so I would look at my phone during the commercial breaks.

In many cases I'd say they are best to be seen and not heard, however, in this case, it would have been best just to turn the TV off. What a waste of air time.

The only reason I was so interested in this game was because I had a 4 leg parley bet, so I kept checking off each leg as it was achieved. I never thought I'd get them all. 1st leg was Hurts had to score the 1st touchdown of the game. (I never thought that would happen, but it did on a QB sneak.) Once he did that early in the 1st qt, I thought to myself the other legs were all possible but challenging. Near the middle of the 4th qt, it was clear to me all legs were going to be completed. Nothing like a few bucks on a game to make it interesting.

Daughter and I rewatched the half-time show with Kendrick Lamar. It was interesting to exchange thoughts and feelings about the symbols and words. We'll get together with my wife's cousin who teaches in the inner city, and get the ultimate lowdown on what went down at half-time.

I re-watched the game 1X already. It was a great day for the Eagles. Obviously the result pleased many in the stadium. I also heard many people saying there were a few losers who left the game early.

In 1960 I was at my granpop's with Dad. So we had three generations in the room. The living room was crowded in front of a tiny tube.

In 2025 we had my daughter, son-in-law, and my grandson in the room watching one of the great defenses put fear into the opponents.

I watched patiently for the inevitable outcome, whereas the millenials were jumping up, pacing, and expecting a come-back.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the game and halftime show. I don't watch football anymore cause of the disappointment when my team lost..a lot. I do try to catch the Superbowl for it's entertainment value. I didn't care who won this one but enjoyed seeing Eagles dominate the game the way they did. I too was waiting for some sort of major miracle comeback to happen like the good old days. But not enough hale Mary long bombs to make a difference.
There are some good videos out there for those wanting to learn more about the meaning behind the halftime show.

I'm sure there are explanatory videos out there. But why should someone need to get a breakdown on what an artist is trying to say through their art? Especially a musician? Isn't that a failure on the part of the artist?

Never mind the fact that anyone unfamiliar with his music couldn't understand a word he was saying.

Yeah, older Philly sports fans are familiar with year-after-year losing. Sometimes we're over that hump, sometimes hopelessly behind. When the city is large enough to support teams in all the major sports, like Philly, you usually have one promising team.

Now do Minneapolis/St. Paul...

The last world championship this area had was the 1991 Minnesota Twins. This is the longest championship drought of any city that has all four major pro sports teams. Before that it was the 1987 Minnesota Twins. That's it for championships around here.

The Vikings have lost four Super Bowls and six NFC championship games.

The Timberwolves have been awful for so long no one believes their run to the NBA Western Conference finals last year will be repeatable.

The Minnesota Wild? For a place that is called the State of Hockey, they have been bitter disappointments year after year.

Perhaps they should all get participation trophies like little kids do..LOL Think about how many disappointed fans there are out there every year. Only one teams wins and the rest of us feel defeated. That's why I gave up.... 😩 Too many years of "next year" feeling.

It's ok to have a #2 favorite. But also ok to not get caught up in the clicks and merch.

I'm personally invested in Philly for a very long time. I'm not switching teams. But I have a spot for the NFC East teams that are underdogs. Gotta thank NYG for commuting Barkley's sentence. Redskins gave us tough games throughout the year, making us better. Dallas ownership is disgusting to me, so I stay away from that mess.
