No point to this . . . but I went to a big box home improvement store today and a lady took her BIRD shopping. . .

You never heard of the emotional support peacock?
I think I discovered my disability. I am disabled because I lack the need for an emotional support animal.

No disrespect intended. I love animals and have no problem with them in public including stores and restaurants. Just find it funny how different people react to the presence of different animals.

I know a guy who is incredibly talented and effective but he always carries a "tea cup" dog with him in a small shoulder bag. He can't leave the house without it. No one around here even gives it a second thought, but where I've lived on the mainland, they likely would not have allowed him in stores with the dog.

So just in case anyone is interested 😉....I Googled bird backpack and you've got plenty of options... 😁

Oh, a Texas Air Fryer! No need for AC power, or batteries.

I'm thinking of getting an Emotional Support Animal myself. I'm thinking of getting a 'potamus. I'll give him an exotic, foreign-sounding name, "Potti".
I see no problem with him helping me board before the Platinum-level flyers.

I know a guy who walks around with a bird cage back pack with his bird. He is a highly intelligent autistic man. I am not surprised that some people go everywhere with animal companions. Modern American society can be really lonely and isolating for some.

Good post. Thanks for that perspective. Yeah people can be a little hard to figure out these days. When we go out for a walk around a small duck pond near us you have about a 50 50 shot of someone walking by acknowledging your existence with a simple hello these days. I usually at least try to make eye contact and a quick hey or hello. I joke to the wife sometimes....forced a hello out of that one.... 😉

That's what is great about dogs. Most dogs 🐕 love to greet everyone...over and over again. We should be more like them.

I may get flamed, but this "support pet" thing is one of my pet peeves. The proliferation of this has me severely questioning their legitimacy. It's bad enough to see one in Target, but in restaurants goes over the line for me. Last year in Florida DW and I were seated at a restaurant outdoor table, and the patrons next to us had 2, I kid you not, Great Danes with them. Seriously, is it that difficult to leave them at home? And as the OP noted, we're now seeing new variants of supposed support animals.

You got to be kidding me. Wow

Support animals are very helpful for some. Keep in mind that a lot of people are lonely, suffering from anxiety and other disorders in a lonely and cold individualistic society. Support animals are not really a thing in communal societies but I can see why it’s helpful in some places. Just try and keep an open mind about these things. Not everyone’s reality is the same.

NO BS......I walked into a HD about 3 years ago in the evening and one of the employees has a racoon on his shoulder. There were about 20 people standing around him ooohing and ahhhhing. I looked right at him and said: "If that racoon gets away from you and bites me, I'm going to own HD."

I am a bit tired of all the dogs in the grocery stores. If I can catch the 7 foot mountain lion that keeps going in front of the game cam on our mountain property, I think I will take him as an emotional support animal when I shop.

I am all for the true need for a service/support animal, if they have the certified training and wear the jacket.
Most don't, it is simply a pet they take with them.
I totally dislike having animals, mostly dogs, in grocery stores or restaurants. They do not need to be by any of my food!

Many places allow dogs if they have outside dining. A lot of people use it when traveling with dogs in nice weather. The people that don’t like it have the option of dining inside.

I'm allergic to dogs (despite 5 years of allergy shots). . . though some are more bothersome than others for reasons I don't understand. . .

Well, there are a couple of habits dogs include in their greeting rituals I could live without - especially when meeting other humans. But, you point is well taken.

Now if I had a bird as cute as this little one I would probably take him along with me. Seems to love trip to the pet store.

We used to live in a very small community in the mountains in CA and I used to take my small Senegal parrot to the small grocery store on my shoulder. She'd sit on my shoulder and tell everyone "Hi" in the store. The owners' kids used to ride their ponies in the store too. Of course, this was back in the 90's.

I read about a lady that took her 150 pound mastiff dog on the airplane with her. Emotional support mastiff. She had one seat and the dog had 2 seats. Emotional support bird, rhino, elephant, crocodile, etc.

Emotional support (wait for it) mosquito. Where does it end?

This thread reminds me of a Catholic church in the Florida Keys (possibly Big Pine Key or one nearby) that encouraged dog owners to bring their dogs to Mass.

I really need to shop more in person. I saw someone walking their cat on a leash at the same big box store today. . .

I owned a bird in the past. Birds need stimulation. Her bird may have been depressed and needed something to cheer it up. I am being serious. I had to change out the toys in the bird cage and assign my kids to play with the bird to keep her from getting bored and then failing health.

I walked into a fast food place last week and a family had their Great Dane dog inside the restaurant. Head on the table and everything.
