No Spare Tire?

Speed is a big factor also. Some of those trailer tires are not rated for the speeds that some are pulled. I always cringe when I have someone pulling a trailer pass me at 80+mph.
Most state have laws regarding towing speeds. NC and SC is 55MPH but not enforced unless your involved in an accident.

OP here. I decided to get an ICE version of the Hyundai Palisade, partly because of the lack of the spare tire. Other reasons were this was the first model year for the hybrid and I didn't want to be a guinea pig; also I didn't feel I would drive enough miles to warrant the fuel savings.

Thanks to everyone for the great responses.

I think car manufacturers omit spare tires because most people couldn't even change a spare tire if their life depended on it.
LOL, that’s not the reason. Besides it’s really handy to have a spare even if you have to find someone to install it. OEMs justify it based on cost, weight (mpg), and space constraints.
