Old Medic how are you doing

Hooray for your wife!
Take the time needed for your graft to heal. You will be back to your old self in no time.

Great news about your DW!

Best to you going forward as you continue to heal. I'm sure you are learning patience with all of this. Blessings and aloha.

Great news indeed!!

Update time .... I know, its getting old, 37 Days short of a year. Ortho Dr freed me from crutches, weight bearing as tolerated but the femur hasn't continued to heal as it should. As long as it remain pain free, I can go PT, But plans on surgery and replacing the rod in July.
DW starts her Immunology infusions today...

Prayers to you that you remain pain free and mobile.
And that your wife tolerates her immune therapy without problems.

Take care and thank you for the update.

Thanks for the update, sort of mixed good and bad. You are not having pain and now can do weight bearing without the extra support, but will need to go for more surgery in few months. Hope your wife does not feel too bad from the medications.

We always appreciate the updates. Adding my prayers for your continuing recovery and success for your DW!

As long as it remain pain free

I guess I may need to clarify that statement. It was referring to just the Femur itself. I have plenty of other stuff that hurts like a .... well...
I'm under pain management, and have some good stuff, but don't use it on a regular basis. I'm from the school of thought that if you use meds to block the pain, then you can cause more damage because the pain isn't there to stop you.

What a journey. You are a real trooper Old Medic.:flowers:

Thanks for the update for both yourself and your wife. Thinking of both of you.

Major Milestones the past few days.... The DW cancer journey had another hurdle. The Drs had noticed some abnormalities with her Ovaries and decided that in the abundance of caution to remove them. She had a hysterectomy nearly 20 years ago, but left them in. She went in last Friday, came home Sunday. The primary exam by the surgeon says they are not cancerous... Shes 3 doses in with the Keytruda and no side effects.

As for me, I am getting around without a cane for the most part, although PT has fussed at me for it. I started walking up the road to the top of the hill and back every day, might be a 1/4 mile in total, and most days now I can do it without stopping to rest. I carry my cane for stability when I have to step out the road. Its rare that someone doesn't stop to chat a minute. So yesterday, I decided to take my flag, a walk the other way. I made it a whole Mile and a half!!!! Planned to go farther but an old friend I haven't seen in years stopped and gave me a lift home and surprised the DW with a visit. Then to top off the day.... Went down to the river and took a swim for the 1st time since before the wreck.

Point of Interest.... The Hospital where DW had surgery is the main hospital the Helicopter that got me flies to. While waiting for her to be discharged, I hear a bird coming in, So I go over to the landing zone. Well it turns out that they had a major accident, and had 3 helicopters coming in. So in talking with the 1st pilot, telling him about my wreck and where, He calls over the 2nd pilot, and he was the one got me! Then when the 3rd Bird comes in, Its the main one we used in our county, And as the Medic walks by I causally said hello.... She lets out a scream and runs over and gives me a big hug... Haven't seen her since she visited me in the hospital shortly after the wreck. So the Medic from the helicopter that got me Got my info and was going to contact the crew that actually got me.

It's wonderful to hear about the the progress both you and your DW have made!

Thanks for the great update. Your determination and commitment to recovery are inspiring. Blessings to you and your DW.

Great news!! Just the other day I was going to find this thread and ask you how things are going. Wow, and to my surprise here it was. Thank You and I wish both of you the best.

It must have been great running into people who knew you and helped you! And you must be so relieved with your wife's surgery outcome! And I'm happy to hear that you're becoming more and more mobile! Great news overall!! Thank you for sharing!

Been to the Ortho Doc today, DW has a cancer Dr follow up tomorrow, and then have other pending health news I'm not aloud to mention yet... LOL...
I again have to say thanks.... re-reading this thread is very uplifting to me.

We wish You both the best and both of you have all of us wishing the best.

Thank You!!

What a heck of a journey this has been. I've been reading through all of these pages (how did I miss them?) and I was THRILLED to read that you walked a mile and a half and went for a swim in the river back in May, that your wife's cancer is in remission and that you got to see the folks that flew you to the hospital. Whew! Mostly I'm just so impressed with your fortitude, your attitude, and your perseverance, Old Medic. You are such an inspiration. I'm so glad things are looking up and so glad you're posting.

DW appointment went great. Reviews of her recent scans and test are negative for any concerns, surgery sites healed up. Will continue on Keytruda and repeat scans in 3 months.
Originally my Ortho Dr was concerned about the femur not healing and had mentioned surgery to replace it, But yesterday he said although its not fully healed, its progressing and holding on surgery.
I have also weaned myself off all the damn meds. Anyone interested in a shoebox full of assorted goodies:confused:
