Online Passport Renewal

I'm on my 5th passport with two years left.

So happy about this.

Can you still renew online? I just created my account and it indicates they stopped this service February 7th. Unless I’m misreading things.

Thanks. Sure hope they restart it. Seems weird to turn it off.

They have stopped and started it several times. I would check every couple of days to see if it has resumed.

We sent our renewal applications registered mail, one day less than 7 weeks ago. No travel plans given. Two new passports arrived today, June 14. I think the estimated time given was like 9 to 13 weeks. We expected mid July. Took 48 days. Not sure when we're going anywhere.
They didn't return our old passports unless their gonna be mailed separately.

They will be mailed separately.

Sent in passport renewal on May 23 and it came in the mail yesterday in just a little over 5 weeks.
WOO HOO!
Now to see if our trip comes through on the wait list for mid Sept. It has been 4 years. Still a little anxious to travel by air.

Cheers!

Processing center in Irving, TX received my renewal application for routine service on June 23, 2023. Got new passport book in pristine condition today August 19, 2023 to San Jo, CA. 58 days total. Not bad. Plus you can check status on travel.state.gov

Any news on online renewal of passports? The last I heard they turned it off in March and it's still off.

I just was checking yesterday, as I need to renew mine....still no update :(Hoping they turn it back on by Jan...I helped a friend submit theirs last year and it was great taking pics with passport photo software and uploading the application digitally vs spending $15-20 at walgreens/CVS on photos. Not to mention avoiding snail mail.

I carry two: US and Ireland. The Irish passport MUST be renewed online now. Stinky poopy. It's the picture-taking stuff that spooks me. I hate technology. Gotta do it next year. Still many years to go on the US passport.

Just saw the writeup in today's paper. Perfect timing as both DH and I are in the process of renewing ours.

I did the online renewal back in July - received the passport 10 days later. Had the photo taken at CVS (and emailed to me) as taking an acceptable photo was my primary concern with the online process.

So, how does that work? Do you just upload your photo from CVS along with the other documents? Sounds like CVS can do digital photos. (Please forgive me, I've been living in a cave for 10 years and just stepped out. I'm also on my third Cognac tonight so I'm a little foggy)

I had CVS email the photo which I saved to photos on my mac. CVS could also put it on a thumb drive if you prefer. During the application process you are asked to upload a photo. The program will indicate if the photo is acceptable. The process was easier than I was expecting as I had no issues at all.

My passport expires in May, and with international travel likely for us in March and/or April, I submitted my online application on January 8th. I took the required picture at home, there are a lot of examples of what is needed/what is wrong on the website. Our finished basement walls are off white, and I have a projector screen, so we had suitable backgrounds. I chose the normal service, which stated a 4-6 week time frame after payment is verified. The progress alerts I have received:
1/8 - Renewal application received, payment pending
1/9 - Payment successful, renewal process beginning
1/10 - Renewal in process, documents being reviewed
1/15 - Renewal approved, new passport being printed, expect it around 1/21

If I do get it on 1/21, that is less than 2 weeks since I submitted the online application, for routine service. Nice!

I expect to renew my passport sometime this year or next year, dependent on when I run out of empty pages.

1/16 - alert received that the passport was shipping. In the afternoon I received confirmation that USPS had it, with a tracking number and expected delivery date of 1/21. Since 1/20 is a Federal Holiday (MLK day), the delivery time makes sense.

DW and I submitted our online renewal applications Jan 6, and I received mine Jan 13. Hers is still in limbo somewhere and the online status tracker isn’t working. It’s still within the advertised timeframe so I can’t complain.

My passport expired about 20 years ago. Not looking forward to the renewal process if I need it again.

My daughter just renewed hers. She received a notice yesterday that it is shipped (7 days after submission.)
