Phone Scammers Meet Their Match with A.I. Generated Granny

A lot like, well, just an AI version of, the human scam baiters who've been doing this for years. One thing I thought the news piece might have done better was to warn people not to try this on their own if they don't know what they're doing. The "professional" scam baiters operate from untraceable virtual machines, and don't forget the people who are calling are criminals who probably can find out where you live.

I am manager of a niche music group and it has a Google voice number attached to my cell phone. I answer calls on my cell phone in case it's through the Google voice number. I get lots of calls with an Indian accent saying they are Julie, Bob, or some other English name. I simply say "No you're not and you are employed to scam people, which makes you a criminal. Get a different job." Then I hang up. No one calls me back. Most of the time they have spoofed the number of someone local.

Imagine how much better the world would be if people would stop trying to steal from one another. From petty theft to scams to wars, much of the conflict in the world is due to stealing.
This is similar to what I do. After the caller identifies himself ("I am calling from your local <service provider>), I just say, "No, you're a SCAMMER, so don't bother calling me again." Then I hang up.

Anyone else notice that "ga-loop" sound after you answer before a person comes on the line? Dead giveaway it's a scammer, of course. That's the robo-dialed call getting transferred to a person in a boiler room.

When I tap the "answer" button on my phone, I wait a second then say "Hello" once. If it's a human they'll answer me. If it's a scam call center I'll get either that "transfer" noise or dead air. I usually wait to see what happens. Sometimes after a few seconds I get a confused "Hello?" as they wonder why I didn't keep saying "Hello" myself until someone answered.

Do you find yourself repeatedly saying "Hello" until someone answers? Don't. Just say it once and see what happens.

I associate the ga-loop sound with calls from overseas. I've heard it even on legit calls. There may be a similar sound from switchboard transfer, of course.

Daisy looks more real than most AI generated characters on other AI sites that try to be human like.

AI is mostly just marketing/rebranding of tech that’s been around gor awhile. Why do you need an AI generated image for tech that disrupts phone scammers?
