Another Factor would be that many of the posters here probably have lived in their home for 30 or more years so it would sort of just be paid off by inertia.
You would think, and probably true for people here, but I know people that refinanced, and refinanced, and 30 years later their home isn't close to being paid off. I can't imagine. I paid mortgages for about 20 years - that was enough.
 
Haven’t had a mortgage in like 20 years now.
Paid ours off in 2006 as well. Rates were around 6.5 % at the time and had a small balance and it seemed like the right thing to do.
 
I am retired and still have a mortgage. I could pay it off now without much angst or dent to the stash. But if I did, I couldnt brag about my 2.75% loan rate I have.
