I started discussing prom stories in the first date thread. To prevent a thread hijack, I thought I'd start a new one for discussions of interesting or wild prom stories.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I went to 9 proms in my high school years. One my freshman year, two my sophomore year, three my junior year, and three my senior year. Some were with girlfriends, some with girls that were friends. I was asked to go to a 4th prom my senior year but I was going broke between tuxes, flowers and pre-prom dinners so I said no. I should have bought a tux, it would have been cheaper.

A disclaimer on these stories, my friends and I were NOT huge partiers/drinkers. Usually. Really. But...

One of those senior year proms, 4 of us went to dinner downtown, then a limo was going to pick us up to take us to the prom. We were going to sneak a bottle of liquor into the limo, but when we parked our car it fell on the ground and shattered. When the limo showed up, out popped the one girl's parents and another couple. Her father was a pastor and got the limo from a funeral home as a favor (the windows weren't tinted and the funeral home's name was prominently displayed, everything you want for prom night LOL). They decided to ride the limo into town to surprise us and then go to dinner themselves with their friends. We were so happy we didn't have that bottle with us, we had no good way to hide it and it would have been obvious. Score one for slippery hands and gravity.

Then there was my girlfriend's senior prom my junior year, when she rented 2 rooms at a local hotel and threw a huge party. I have no idea how the cops weren't called that night. Once everyone was gone 4 of us crashed in one of the rooms and went to sleep. The morning management shift DID call the cops, who showed up at 8 am. It was obvious we'd been asleep for a while so they couldn't say we were disturbing anyone, at least at that point. A female cop saw the prom dresses and chatted us up about prom night. She knew we were doing our best to stay off the streets, so they handed us trash bags to throw everything away and then sent us on our way. Score one for MADD/SADD which had a big presence at the time.

All the other proms were pretty boring in comparison, LOL.

A girl I'd known most of my life at church asked me to her prom in another nearby city. She asked MONTHS ahead of time. We were just friends and I had no interest in her as a GF though I liked her a lot. I agreed to go with her. I think she was kinda sweet on me, but...

I had no GF at the time.

A girl I'd known all my life at school rapidly became my GF in the intervening months since I had agreed to go to a prom with the girl from church.

By the time our school's prom rolled around, new GF and I planned to go. By then new GF had begun to attend my church. In essence, we were going steady.

FF to the crunch time. I was planning not to say anything to either girl regarding the other, but they now knew each other at church.

So, it had to come out and fortunately, new GF "tolerated" the situation and girl (who was a friend) had no problem with it. So I guess I dodged a bullet (or two). It was pretty tense for a while and GF threw that incident up to me a few times going forward - even after we were married!

1968...I was 16, junior in HS with no driver's license, my GF was 17 at a different HS with license. Her Father let her use the car and she picked me up and we went to the bowling alley and we switched seats and I drove from there. The highlight of the night was the photo session...quite noneventful. I only asked her to the prom since one of her classmates invited her to their prom. She did both...lol

I went to all the HS dances: prom, homecoming, turn about - girl asks boy. They all were a combination of uncomfortable situations with the parents beforehand, bad dancing, sneaking booze in, dinner at someplace trying to act like an adult. Ultimately ending up with a garter on your rear view mirror and a memory.

Prom story two: DW, then GF got her parents to take her to a specialty shop in the big city 50+ miles away to find the perfect prom dress. It cost a lot of money (for her) and it looked great and fit well.

Half way through our Prom GF/DW grabbed my arm as if she had been startled by a snake dropping from the ceiling. Here came a girl in the exact same dress as GF/DW's! We spent the remainder of the evening avoiding the other girl on the dance floor and in the seating area.

I did 3 of them in HS. First as a Soph, asked by a cute freshman girl and I immediately said yes. No idea where she got the courage to do that, I certainly didn't have it then. Doubled with a friend who drove, dinner at Treulich's in Phoenix (I-17 and Camelback, now closed). We didn't have any contact after that.

The only thing I remember from the second one was she was a senior ginger pom girl. The last was with the then-GF and we went all-out. She was beautiful, I wore tails. Still a fun picture to look at.

With 45-50 years of perspective, I'm glad I went and spent what I did over my father's objections. It was an early introduction to putting on better clothes and a tie and dressing and acting appropriately. Those experiences served me well in my marriage and in the corporate world. :)

In my junior year in high school, I attended my brother Dave's senior prom with his tux, his money, his corsage, and his date.

On the south side of Chicago in 1965, the tradition was to go to the Indiana dunes on the morning after the prom and, hopefully, to get lucky on a beach blanket. Those hopes were almost always in vain. My family are pale skinned Irish, and my brother wanted some color for the beach. We cut school on prom day and went over to get some sun on the "rocks" on Lake Michigan. After quite some time I told Dave that he was already lobster red and needed to get out of the sun; he insisted on just a little more color. You can guess the rest - he nearly passed out in pain while donning his tux. My mother looked at me and said, get dressed. At first, I balked until she said, "no one in this family is going to leave a high school girl standing in the hall in a prom dress, get that tux on and go."

Turned out to be fun. I didn't know the girl, but she was friendly, cute, and my age. I knew all of Dave's friends and we joined them for the traditional dinner after the prom. We went to The Italian Village, then a post prom favorite with sophisticated Chicago high schoolers. I too had a mild burn, so I didn't push it with the dunes the next day. But I guess you could say I got lucky with the prom deal.

Getting pretty close to the best story so far!!

Thanks for sharing. I wonder what the young lady thought when you showed up at her door.

She was fine with me. I had a touch of Irish charm, albeit not at the top of the HS cool scale.

No HS prom for me. In addition to my shyness, the school at the time was still close to 90% male (females just started being admitted a few years earlier), and being in an urban area, much of the student body was caught up a bit with many of the "anti-establishment" views of the time, which included holding a prom. I know they voted against wearing caps and gowns at graduation (a move 50 years later many of those who voted for it regret). They may have done the same with proms, I just do not recall, it was not made a big deal. DW's HS was the same.

However, our college at the time did hold a formal prom for the senior class, which we attended. My main recollection is that it was my first exposure to ballroom dancing. While I could certainly move with the groove and get down with the sound , the "art" of choreographing moves with a dance partner - with the possible exceptional of a simple version of "The Hustle" - was pretty much new to me. But I did my best improv, did not step on any of my dance partner's feet, or knock them to the floor, and they and DW are still friends with me to this day 😂 .

I went to a Junior Prom (mine) and two Senior Proms (mine and GF who became my DW). She graduated a year early so we didn't go to her Junior Prom. We went to two different schools.

Her parents rented a Bentley for us for her prom. My brother let me borrow his Toyota Celica (86) for mine and it was a hoot to drive. I don't remember whose it was, but after one of then we went to a hot tub place. : O)

We went to expensive dinners and had a lot of fun. We didn't go with a group. Our Freshmen year she asked me to her Sadie Hawkins dance. We actually met at the end of 8th grade, roller skating.

cd : O)

Compared to you Don Juans, my senior prom was out right boring. I asked my now-wife to my senior prom. She was a junior. I974. My dad had a 66 Mustang I washed and polished for the date. For some reason our high school held the prom at a club house for a gated community on a lake that was over an hour away from where our school area was located. The facility was way undersized to where there was literally no way anyone could dance. Dinner was included but it was elbow-to-elbow, almost impossible to eat. Between the loud music (no band, no photo set-up) and the shouting to hear any sort of conversation, we decided to leave after about an hour. We went back to her parents house where they had a rec room above the garage and made out until sunrise. Then I went home. I do remember getting her a wrist corsage.

I have a fleeting memory of going to a prom or perhaps a Christmas Dance with a girl when I was in high school. I must have had my driver's license because I don't remember anyone driving us. We had a good time but didn't really hit it off... two introverts I guess.

Since she was in our graduating class, I would see her occasionally over the years. Regretfully, I read her obituary in October. RIP Diane.

I went to 2 proms. The most memorable was when I was a Junior. The Junior class was in charge of decorating the gym for the prom. We had a beach theme. Trucked in a lot of sand to make a beach in the gym. The school staff was not happy with the results, and especially our lack of a good cleanup.

All boys school. No proms.

Took a girl at a different high school to her junior prom.

Then did the same senior year.

Been married over 30 years now...

Yeah, every few weeks, the Class of '65 sends out another obit. Not many of us even chose to attend our 60th reunion. It was kinda neat, though. DW and I were a couple in HS and we still were at the 60th. People remembered. Cool.

DW and I are in the same graduating class. We knew of each other in high school. She was class VP and I played soccer with her next older brother.

Went to my to the prom of my first real girlfriend. I had broken it off with her with pressure from my parents. I got back together with her secretly and got dressed at her house for the prom.
Needless to say she is my ex now.

I and my best friend had dates with a couple of guys from the next town. Neither of us really had a boyfriend at the time. I bought a dress for it and then the guys broke the dates. While practicing for the graduation ceremony I found myself asking the guy in line in front of me if he was going? He said yes so I asked him if he was taking a date? He said no. I said, well would you like to take me as your date? He smiled and asked what time he should pick me up. Originally, he had planned to go stag with a few of his guy friends. As it turned out I became the whole group's date and never sat down the entire night. I had the time of my life. My best friend stayed home and didn't know there were plenty of dates to go around.

No proms for me. Way too shy to ask anyone.

I was w*rking in a coal mine in WY as part of a co-op program at my university. I had just finished my freshman year and my girl friend was a HS senior at the time. I worked a double shift (didn't want to lose any money) in Hanna, WY, then drove after midnight to Denver and caught a plane back to Pittsburgh. I had my tux, shoes with me. We went to her prom Saturday night, then to the after prom party. I had reserved a hotel room, where we spent the night. Nothing happened other than the regular "petting" we did prior to going to WY. Got up, went to church next morning, as was the tradition at our Catholic HS. went out for breakfast then went to the prom picnic. I left early, caught a plane back to Denver then drove back to Hanna, WY. Got there about noon on Monday and slept. Got up Tuesday morning, worked a double to make up for my lost Monday shift. The things you can do on love and adrenaline.

She sent me a dear John letter a week later.

We got back together again after I got back home. I then decided to back to WY again to see if she'd dump me again. She didn't. Sending me cookies in the mail, letters every other day. I felt bad, so I bought her a turquoise necklace to give to her when I got back. I gave her the necklace and she dumped me again. Bitch!

LOL! :ROFLMAO:

Went to Jr Prom with new Boyfriend (DH at age 17), had a great dinner, evening dancing, then the local city "make out" spot, along with about 100 other cars full of couples
Missed Sr Prom, as we had stopped seeing each other, and the guy I was dating went out of town that weekend.
DH and I got back together the summer after HS graduation, and have been together ever since.

Amazingly, DW and I never did break up - or even come close (heh, heh, as far as I know).
