I do a monthly transfer from Vanguard to my bank checking account, for expenses. I accidentally did the transfer backwards and pulled from my bank this month. Quite the shock when I checked my bank balance this AM. Luckily I have enough of a cushion in my checking account or things would really have gotten ugly. Just did a transfer (for double the amount) in right direction. All should be well tomorrow.

I clearly wasn't paying enough attention, but part of what threw me off is that Vanguard has changed the wording on the transfer drop down. Used to say "Send me money" and now it says "pull from" or something similarly vague.

Yeah, that requirement for actually paying attention trips me up occasionally too. I get used to doing things a certain way, and it takes an act of Congress to get me to change.

Our county utility bill process changed recently. They're trying to force you to pay online, which I have no problem with normally. But they're charging a fee whether you pay by CC or eCheck. That pisses me off, so I'm still sending in a check as a protest. Well, I went to pay my quarterly bill yesterday, and noticed that they've completely removed the address (PO Box) from the billing website, I guess as another technique to push you to the online system. Luckily I had an old bill filed away with the address. Old farts with too much time on their hands cannot be defeated.

Hope they cash the check. Many of us old farts don't have access to the means for making electronic payments.

My monthly transfers are automated so I don’t have to pay attention so much

Ooops!

My monthly transfers are also automated. At American Express Bank they conveniently let you modify the amount of a recurring scheduled transfer.

I do single transfers now and then and have to be careful.

One of the reasons I keep "too much" in the checking account is to prevent any surprises from over-drawing the account. Glad it w*rked out for you and that you caught it before any damage was done.

I'm the opposite, I think.
All my monthly retirement income comes into my checking account like magic.

After doing online payments from checking to certain things, I move the excess to my Vanguard taxable account.

I need to remember to pay my monthly CC bills from that account, but that hasn't proven to be too difficult...

My monthly expenses are a bit too variable to do a set amount.

Interesting. So you setup the xfer once (in the correct direction :p ) and tweak the number a few days out, if it needs to bee changed?

So, BoA (along with other banks?) is having technical difficulties today, and the new transfer hasn't shown up yet. I'm waiting with bated breath to be absolutely sure I did this transfer in the right direction. Though I have read the verification email like 6 times.

My yearly dance is to sell equities into Vanguard's settlement fund and then transfer from that monthly. Too young to pull from any retirement account.

Guessing, for retirement income, you are referring to SS and/or pension?

Correct. SS + pension/annuity + quarterly RMD...
