COcheesehead
Give me a museum and I'll fill it. (Picasso) Give me a forum ...
I have been on this forum since 2016, but since all the old Fidelity folks are joining us I figure I should make another introduction.
First my name. Its a combination of the postal abbreviation for Colorado: CO and cheesehead, a tongue in cheek nickname for people born in Wisconsin. I left Wisconsin in 1994 and have been in Colorado ever since.
I have a bachelor’s degree in business and started off in sales. I had pretty good luck with that, but wanted more than working for the man, so I was able to stash enough money to start my own company from dirt in 1997. The company was very profitable and grew every year until I sold it on a 5 year buy out starting in 2016 and culminating in 2020, the year I could walk away retired early at 57.
2016 is when I found this forum and really began to envision what an early retirement was all about. I was helped by many members here and I thank you all.
My wife and I are prolific philanthropists. She started a non profit that provides for breast cancer survivors of which she is a 35 year+ survivor. We have also started and funded two scholarship programs at my alma mater to pay for a college student’s tuition, one in the school of business and one wherever the university sees the greatest need. We have no children, so these entities will benefit upon our death.
All the way I bought and sold some commercial buildings and now we just own some land other than our home.
I am a self directed investor for the last 19+ years. My investment goals are high current income, capital preservation and then growth in that order. I use a combination of conservative laddered individual bonds and some equity exposure and rarely touch those. I add income oriented closed ends funds to juice current income and add and subtract from those as needed.
For outside interests, we love to travel, enjoy searching the SW USA for ancient sites, we hike, I love to ride my bike as much as possible, my wife is an award winning photographer and we have two small dogs that make us smile everyday.
At Fidelity I am known as Mootsie and I still monitor that forum from time to time.
Enjoy my time here. I love the moderation philosophy here.
