Nearing the end of my second official day of eR. So far, so good. Very good.

Went to the barber shop today and said, "Cut it until it's too short to part". Unlike some who are coiffureically challenged, I have a full head of hair, albeit very gray. But, for the first time since military basic training 35 years ago, I no longer have a need for a comb. Very liberating.

Tomorrow, who knows. Cocoa Puffs for breakfast? Short pants? (I'll need to go with breifs, not boxers, as I explained in another thread).

Life is good.... ;)

It certainly is. Congratulations on your retirement and enjoy the rest of your life, :D

Whoa, that implies that you have TIME for breakfast? I can't even imagine.... ;)

Congrats man...oh, and count-chocula is better... you get the cocoa puffs AND marshmallows :)

In the spirit of UncleMick's and my cheap bastardness, I cast a vote for the generic equivalent at your local discount store (although, Aldi's doesn't have an equivalent to Coco-Puffs...but they do have a damn good alternative to Cocoa Crispies...MMMMMmmmmmm)

Congraduations REW!!! Please take 40 winks for an afternoon nap tomorrow for me, as I slave away at my job. :)

You bet! I'll get in a power nap in your honor tomorrow. ;)

Funny that you mention napping. About the only downside I've discovered about being actually, finally, at long last retired is that I'm so darned excited about it I wake up before dawn! The feeling is very similar to what I remember as a kid on Christmas morning. Afternoon naps are definitely in order.

LovesLife, you said you were "giddy" for the first few months. I'm beginning to understand why.... :D

This can only be a good thing... you're not so exhausted that you need to hit the snooze a few times...

Sounds like you're having a honeymoon with yourself. :smitten:

See, now you have a reason to want to get out of bed in the morning!

Congrats REWahoo!!
I'm free this week, as well--I've been watching your countdown with interest, since it mirrored my own!

The downside to a nap: I fell asleep at 4 p.m. and woke up at 4 a.m. the next day. My hubs said naps are a "slippery slope!" I must say I awoke feeling fantastic. :)

Leslie, congratulations to you as well on your liberation from the working world! :)
And don't worry about that nap thing. With practice, I'm sure you will have it down to a science.

Congratulations, and yes naps are not unknown in my house. ;)

Speaking of naps, doesn't the so-called Mediterranean lifestyle prescribe naps? I remember being in Spain, where they don't eat dinner until after 9-10 p.m and I know that they used to always siesta. I went out about 7:30 a.m. to see if people were actually going to work after being up so late; they were. I don't know how they can do it without naps. Is this still true, say in Spain, Italy, or France, even by working people?

True.  They stop working at 12:30-1:00, go home and eat a large supper and drink wine, take a nap until 3:00-3:30, then go back to work around 4:00 until 7:00-8:00, come back home and eat something light.  The younger people go out until 11:00 to midnight for a walk, come home, go to sleep, and start the next day all over again.

Well, it's not as if you HAD to go anywhere or do anything, so what difference does it make when you sleep? The biggest problem may be that you still own a clock...

But it sounds like you finally got a good "night's" sleep. I spent most of the first three months of ER erasing my sleep defecit with two-hour naps, but now 30 minutes is just perfect. (Except for TH, who's probably learned to nap whenever his kid is napping.)

Yup, and this is why Spain has four rush hours. Yet they think Americans are crazy for eating the last meal of the day at 5:30.

Gee, maybe it's more than just the welfare government.

I often take a nap in the afternoon even though I'm only semi-retired. This means that about 1 in 15 naps are interrupted by a tech support call, and I have to go from 0 to 60 in three rings. It's a very painful thing, and sometimes I'm not up to speed for another 30 seconds.

But I've found that if the nap isn't longer than about 45 minutes, it doesn't affect your sleep pattern at night.

So do I, but I resist.

Dang it, someone had to say "cocoa crispies". Grrr... Now I want some and dont have any.

But I have BACON!

When I was working, I always had time for a healthy breakfast on company time of course. I had my supply of oatmeal, raisins, dry milk, protein powder, hot sauce, grated cheese. I was able to make various combination of cold sweet cereal or hot spicy and cheesy cereal while I relaxed and reviewed the new postings of the forum.

Gee I miss work. :D

I love afternoon naps but at age 71 my wife has started to
hold a mirror under my nose if I sleep more than 1 hour. :D

Cheers,

Charlie

REW is outta' here, heading to Galveston for a week-long cruise. Wonder what I'll find on the RE Board when I get back:

- Will th & JG discover they are more alike than either will admit, especially when it comes to the blood sport of car-buying negotiations?

- Will th & unclemick2 pass me on the hotly contested category of "Most Time Online"?

- Will ***** reappear on the forum to wreak havoc among the bretheren (and sisteren)?

- Will BUM marry off another daughter in a ceremony involving men wearing skirts?

- Will JG & Ol_Rancher hold the line on those considering relocating to TX?

- Will new critters appear wearing edible headgear?

Stay tuned folks.

REW, gone cruisin' :D
