I have had so many garage sales throughout my life and always make sure that the items are clean and individually marked. I always mark them really cheap because no one is going to pay much for used items. So when having a large sale, it is a lot of work for days in advance to get ready. If I go to a garage sale and items are dirty and not priced, I just leave.I had the opposite feeling. I am not going to dig through someone’s tub. To me it comes across as lazy, but that’s just me.
When emptying a house I always use a variety of methods. If the home is on a busy enough street and I’ve already had a garage sale and individually sold the items that were worth the effort then I put items in the front yard with a free sign. In the last house I lived in that worked so great that very little had to be taken to a thrift store. It’s a lot easier to have people carry the items away for you when you were getting rid of tons of stuff. Of course items that are totally junk get taken to the dump.
