This doesn't work either, at least not on FBMP, because people are flaky. I have some Disney collectibles listed for $5 each. I've gotten a couple of dozen inquiries including several people who had actual conversations, told me which items they wanted and when they could come. They still never showed up or followed through. I listed them a month or so ago and I'm about ready to take down the listing and donate them. Actually, I'm currently gathering things for a free table and will just add those to the pile.
I'm with you. Sometimes I give away something of value and think, I bet they're just gonna sell it. Then I realize, so what? Good for them to have a side hustle.
They’re not worth more than that and I wanted to move them. No biggie. I’ve sold several. The rest will get given away.
Generally, if something is worth more than $300 and can be shipped UPS, I will try to sell via ebay or Craigs List. Otherwise, I donate it or offer it for free and they pick up. Sometimes just setting it out at the end of my drive, it is gone by 7:00 p.m.
One time we set out a couch for free. Someone took it then an hour later returned it!
I'm sure...I know our HOAs would be all over me back in the day. In Florida the items go fast; in Ohio it may take a week. Last time I put out a leaf blower, it was gone in no time flat (FL). In Appalachian Ohio we don't recycle in the township, so placing aluminum cans at the end of the drive in a transparent bag, it too, will be gone quickly.
Once a year the city will pick up ANYTHING left at the curb and a lot of people participate. What happens in reality is folks drive around and cherry pick the stuff and the city picks up the rest. It’s a nice service to have, but it’s only once a year.
We are lucky here, bulk pickup is done every two weeks, same day as trash and recycle bins pickup.
I think our city requires us to transport it to certain pickup locations a couple of times a year. Unfortunately we don’t have the ability to transport larger items.
We live in a guard gated community and I often wonder why we have such a great biweekly arrangement with the waste management company. When we have something bulky to dispose, like a dead small beverage refrigerator, I just look up their website with our home address to check if the pickup was for that week or the following week.
We have bulk pickup weekly as part of our regular trash service. They are supposed to pick it up same day as trash or next day but you can also call or go online and put in a bulk pickup request.

Dumpster diving is actually legal unless you go into private property. When I was working in info security, we spoke about dumpster diving is how you can lose PII (personal indentifiable info), hence you always want to shred anything with PII.
