Restaurant adding fee for use of credit card

Yeah, the general response on Twitter was that folks would just not go back. IMO, that doesn't work half as well as a face to face with the owner or manager. They need to know why you won't be back.

Complete agreement here. If it's a place you like, and reasonably local, you're not only working to change things, but also you're helping your neighbors. There is no downside to making sure the owner/manager gets the message beyond a few minutes of your time, and very possibly a big upside.

That seems to be the trend: put the customer in the awkward position of challenging the junk fees. Like the default 20% tip when you walk up to the counter and pick up your order, or the 3% auto charge for whatever the latest sad news story. Even if it says "optional" if they default to "yes" you look like a jerk if you opt out.
I guess I have no shame. It irritates me no end when I see the effort to manipulate my behavior so I routinely refuse to contribute to the cause de jour whatever it is.

It's especially annoying at the grocery store - hey, you're the megabucks megacorp, what're you hounding me for? I'll keep my tax deductions to myself thank you.

Plus I don't support the same causes my supermarket bigwigs feel is most important to THEM. That's why I really loved Amazon Smile - where you were able to choose your charity and a portion of your purchase went directly towards the group you chose. Was sad when they discontinued the program.

Went out to a local restaurant last evening for our monthly eat out with our next-door neighbor. Not a Phoo Foo Place, but a decent local restaurant. There was no CC Fee and they had an on table electronic Payment gizmo (Love that).

I had an 8oz filet with half a dozen shrimp for $23 and DW had half a rack of ribs for $19. I thought that was very reasonable. The food was very good ..... surprisingly. The Steak was tender if but thinner than your typical filet (3/4" vs the usual 1"). DW's ribs were perfect.

Well, I finally was at a place that was gong to charge one... DW and I went to a movie where we normally do not go... but near a House of Pies... so DW said "I want a slice of key lime pie"....

Go in and order her key lime and my wild blueberry and I see a 30 cent 'convenience fee'... I said 'what is that", knowing the answer... I paid cash and said 'thank you but we will not be coming back'....

DW said 'who cares, we have not been here in 4 years or more years' LOL...
