Retired Trader / Income Investor

There's an easy way to remedy that: I-10 east to Jacksonville, turn left on I-95 North. Keep going until you get back to the Land of Steady Habits.
That thought crosses my mind every so often, especially when I talk with my nephew who is the Buildings and Grounds Manager at Heritage Village in Southbury. But my friends and daughter keep talking me out of the possibility. maybe someday...

I was very fortunate....,I was still gathering cash from various sources before creating my initial retirement portfolio and had the advantage of "starting" from very attractive post-crash entry prices for almost everything. Better lucky than smart!
Regards, Dick
Wow, that’s good! You might have been forced to retire due to the huge impact on your industry. Good to hear you were already prepared.

Can anyone tell me how to delete the ever-growing number of alerts under "the little bell"?
If you click on it a window pops up. It will be a combination of likes on your posts and posts in threads you are following. You close the window by touching anywhere else, and the notifications are gone.

When the window is open, along the bottom is a preferences option. Click on that to select which alerts you want to receive.

Hi Dickoncapecod, It's cheris1, known on this site as schrodingerscat. I also see mootsie - COcheesehead and Flute McG. I miss your CEF post at the beginning of the month!
Hi Cheris1 / schrodingerscat, glad to see you are here, see you joined back in 2023. Nice to see familiar people. Its hard for me to follow 2 forums - takes a lot of time, so currently spending most of the time here. So far, I like the layout and info I see.

Hi, cheris, I'm so happy you are here. I was going back and forth to see what you were doing.
And, uncleharley is also here now, so this is working out pretty good.

I'm so happy to see you here! I'm just now reading about how to introduce oneself. Except for Fido and a little SA, I'm new to forums. I hope this one is easy to follow.
Welcome to our forum. I hope you'll participate often.

Former treasury futures trader here. I traded my own money on the floor of the CBOT and electronically. Prior to trading on the floor, I was a broker that handled institutional clients. Started in 1987 and left in 2016. Traders never retire, they just fade away.

Any way I am basically a 3 fund portfolio guy, but my fixed income is primarily individual treasuries and CD's and some BND. Soon to be 60 years old, with 50/50 portfolio. My niche is buying dips in VTI and VEU aggressively during corrections. I ain't buying this dip though.

I wonder will your holding blow up if we have another financial crisis? I never heard of CEF's, I will check them out.

Just caught up with this thread......great getting the band back together! I didn't know you were into quantum physics, Ms. Schrodingerscat! Are you going to begin a BDC thread here? I think there are lots of folks who's enjoy/benefit from it.....

I'm so old I remember when customers like me could be signed on to the Merc floor. Sandor, Melamed, Moniesons, Housman, Rich Dennis, Trouts.....the ancient ones. I wept when they closed the floor....trader heaven, the Big Casino was gone....

Dick, he was a trader and he said he'd never heard of CEFs. How is this possible? I really don't understand how anyone could not know about CEFs. Weren't they a very early form? My father b. 1921 was trading CEFs when he retired.
Did you know about CEFs when you were trading?

Dick it appears that you have to hit the bell , and read or not read all the messages, and when you back out , it automatically resets ..... Just a beginner here as well, but I think that is the answer.....

Hi. I only discovered CEFs when I retired. They are retail products, and they were not permitted by conflict of interest and independence prohibitions imposed by my employers through the years. I could only own approved "safe harbor" traditional mutual funds. I was primarily a prop trader, swinging with house money in Treasurys and their futures, as well as interest rate futures (fed funds, euro dollar depos, etc)
