Roof Replacement with Solar Panels

Ransil... one thing that happened to me when I was searching for some work... I got the same person with different phone numbers... asked him and he said they were associated with different websites... IOW, who is going to get a fee from him...

That's good to hear. Other wonderful features are insurance discounts and attic is less hot that with a shingle roof. Nice. Wish I'd known about this roof type earlier.

This roof type is very high on DH and my list. Any other info you can provide would be extremely helpful.
FWIW, our standing seam roof in TN was around $100K. About 3X the cost of shingles.

We just decided on a roofer today. Damage for roof, gutters, downspouts and gutter guards is $94K for 3800 sf of roofing. The necessary siding work, Vulcan vents and solar panels off and back on adds another $28K. BTD!!!

I just setup appointment for roof quotes, metal & shingles as I have no idea what a roof cost now days.
as soon as you start searching your facebook is loaded with ads, most look like AI generated or done by the same firm , some offer $8k +/- for a roof replacement, that is not gonna happen.
I filled out the info form on about 5 of them and get a text to verify info and setup appointment , 2 of the the texts had the same persons first name ( no a common name) different phone numbers, googling the numbers turns up nothing, not sure if it a central place handling appointments or big company using "family owned" names for business.
I scheduled them an hour apart on the same day , we will see if any get doubled up due to late or early as this state is not know for timely anything.
Have you received your quotes? Curious as to $$$ if you don't mind sharing.

I saw the clip of your install...fascinating! Our roofer will fabricate the larger panels at the shop and will have the machine in our driveway for about a day to fabricate the small oddball pieces. We're 2 story with 2 bays. The original owner who designed our home couldn't go with a simple design but had to make it complicated :2funny: .

If it works for you, consider standing seam metal roofing. The panels attach without making any roof penetrations that can leak.
We had old panels on an old (leaking) roof. We hired the roofer and the solar guy separately but they both had worked together on past solar+roof jobs so it was a good fit. Solar came off, new temporary solar setup on ground while the roof work was done. Then permanent solar installed (new panels/inverter/battery). It was a ballet of workers for a few weeks.

We went with standing seam for exactly the reason skyking gave: no roof penetration either with roofing or solar panels. Very clean setup. We have a big house with a steep, complex roof: $60K (not including solar), but we're in Hawaii, so costs likely higher here. Off-grid. Keeping water out of house interior is #1 priority for all situations. Good luck.

Had 4 quotes the other day for shingles and metal roof is about 26 sq cheap shingles are about 12K better 16K and metal standing seam galvanized 23k-26k Kynar color coating add 5k and gutters /downspouts 3-4K .

Based on they were on time and all showed up ( that does not happen here) and installation out is 4 weeks for shingles and 6-8 weeks for metal the roofing companies are not that busy at this time, hurricane season can change that.

Roof leak was the reason I never got solar, that and having to upgrade a 60 yr old electrical system to support it.
