Do we all see the same ads when we're viewing the forum? I'm getting tired of the scantily clad middle aged woman, and I certainly don't think I clicked on something that would have made her appear. Anyone else getting bombarded by the babe in blue? If I'm the only one, please give me some idea of how i can get rid of her!

Use an ad blocker.

To be completely honest, until I read this post, I didn't even realize there were ads. Right now, I'm seeing one for something about skiing, which clearly isn't targeted to me as I've never skied a day in my life.

I've never gotten ads. Take your pick of a number of free ad blockers.

I use an 8" tablet and Chrome and never any ads. Are you talking about the app or web browser?

I use adblock, so nope. I turned it to look now, the only ad I see now is a clothing company, one I've recently visited.

So whatever you are seeing is perhaps somehow personalized to your browsing history?

Ad blockers are usually quite effective, but just so you know, we have no control over what ads are served.

On my phone there are no ads and that’s where I am most of the time. When I responded last night I was on my desktop.

I guess I'm not as old as I thought. :)

I was using the duckduckgo extension on Firefox, and it was bogging down my browser to unusable levels. Perhaps I should try their browser. I forgot they had them.

I removed the extension last week and the first thing I got was the babe in blue. I thought I somehow got on a porn site. I did click the little triangle in the top right of the ad and I haven't seen her since, I think. She was kind of memorable, so the memory is hard to fade.

At issue here is the actions of "trackers." Ads on one platform can reflect your browsing history on others. How? Usually, through third-party cookies from servers specifically set up to track users across platforms. If you set your browser to clear cookies on exit, each time you open your browser it knows nothing about any previous sites you've visited.

But you'll want to add exceptions. Cookies can also help sites remember who you are and what you were doing last time you visited. So you want to allow some sites to track you that way.

Most browsers allow you to install add-ons which block known third-party "tracker" cookies while still allowing legitimate cookies local to the site you're visiting.

Frankly it's easier to just ignore the ads. Unfortunately that leads advertisers to seek more intrusive ways to shove their message in your face. That's what's forced many of us to ad-blocking browsers. It's too bad. Low-key advertising benefits both the consumer and the seller. But of course the inconsiderate advertisers had to ruin it for everyone.

I was ignoring for a while, and the DW comes over and I wanted to show her something on ER, and then we get the babe. "It's just an ad, it's just an ad!"

Recently our Forum has so many ads , making me stop viewing & then I get back on & the ADS continue.

I think the management or something changed of our early-retirement forum as all of a sudden the ADs started appearing.

Earlier there were no ads, I have not changed my Laptop or phone, then WHY

I go to Bogleheads from the same phone & Laptop, I do not see any ADs, then why on this Forum.??

None on my phone, I don't use it for web sites at all, for that I stick to my desktop with a nice big 34" screen that I can see. On the desktop I run Ghostery and Adblock plus.
