We just returned from a month in Barcelona with the company The Good Life Abroad. It was amazing. We want to do another trip with them next February. The other options in February we are interested in are Sardinia or Lisbon. Anyone have any experience in either of these places? We have to get out of the Midwest during the month of February.

I live in Lisbon. Its an amazing city. February is not the most ideal time here - it never gets that cold, but it FEELS cold indoors, probably because of the way things are built. This year it rained a lot, to the point that we took a trip to the Persian Gulf to get some sunshine. There is lots to do - museums, concerts, cafes, palaces etc., but be careful on the cobblestones in the rain.

This is very accurate. When we visited Portugal in November and December a few years ago I could not believe how cold I felt inside the apartments we rented. In Porto and Lisbon we stayed in older buildings, so I could understand it. But in Nazaré we stayed in a brand new construction condo and even though there was central heat, it really only seemed to keep the living room/kitchen warm. The bedroom had no heat source and we were freezing at night -- I wore gloves and a hat to bed. We were very surprised by that one. Maybe insulation standards are just different? Not sure if this it true elsewhere in Europe as we usually don't visit in the winter months.

I will say we enjoyed Lisbon immensely even in December, what a charming city! Loved the city's parks and the kiosks along the Avenida da Liberdade and throughout the city.

I'd like to see Sardinia... But the short time in Lisbon was nice. Some of the restaurants were the best on the trip.

A day of castle hopping in / around Sintra was nice too.

Yes. I am worried about those wet cobblestone streets. We just spent February in Barcelona and honestly it was lovely so was hoping Lisbon might be comparable.

We were in Lisbon (and Porto) in mid-February and it was rainy and chilly--as Lagniappe said above, it felt colder than it was, even inside restaurants and hotel public areas. I think we need to go back in warmer weather so we can really experience it. But next February might be better!

I've been to both Sardinia (in October) and Lisbon (in May). Personally, I'd get bored in Sardinia for a month. The only large city is Cagliari in the south and although it's pleasant, there isn't as much to see there as in many mainland Italian cities. The beach towns would be sleepy in February. Though there are trains on Sardinia, you'd be somewhat limited without your own transportation. There's a lot more to see and do in Lisbon and in nearby towns. I had hot weather in Sardinia in October, and cool weather in Lisbon in May. February weather in Lisbon doesn't sound appealing.

Though I haven't been to Sicily yet, but I think it would be a better destination in February than Sardinia. Better February weather is found in Andalucia (southern Spain including Seville, Granada, & Cordoba, plus the nearby "white villages"). I had perfect weather in Morocco in February last year, which is easily reached by ferry from southern Spain.

In January-February this year, I spent 4 weeks in Guatemala, Belize, & Mexico. Cities like Oaxaca and Mexico City have lots to do and great February weather. Another idea is Buenos Aires, though it may be a bit too hot & humid in February.
