Scam texts from "recruiters"

Recently I just respond that I'm in the market for a chauffeur and ask if they are interested.

Opportunities have dwindled.

Years ago I knew a guy that would answer the phone and talk a while. The he would ask the guy if he had a pencil. When the guy said yes he would tell him to turn it over and erase his name from the list.

I get 10+ spam political texts a day; sometimes 20-30. They're all for someone named, "Marcia." I have no idea who she is, but I'm guessing she accidentally made a typo entering her info somewhere and put in my number. No way to stop it. I block and report every one of them as spam. It's never ending.

I also get 2-3 robo calls per day that leave a voice message about my, "loan application." No toll text or recruiter messages.....yet.

The most dangerous are the ones warning you of some E-Z Pass fine and asking you to click a link before the fine escalates.

The job offers are only every 4-6 months and I suppose that's not too bad.

I got out of LinkedIn several years ago, but all our old information is sitting out there somewhere and is easily retrievable.

As somebody earlier posted, strangely enough, the job offers do make me feel good.
Something psychological about "they still want me but I must kindly decline"

Not texts but I get emails 'looking for someone with my background and skills'. They're selling franchises.

None of the text noted above, but DW and I have both been getting text the last few days wanted to know how we vote (party wise) in an election if it were held today, etc. Kind of weird, since our numbers aren't linked in any way that we know of (?).

Address -> All residents living at an address -> database lookup of phone numbers of those residents

I don't answer a phone call unless it is on my directory and has the proper name attached. Even then I might not answer so they can leave a message and I can decide whether to respond or not. Emails the same treatment. I do a lot of block/delete.

I had a period of time about six months ago where the spam in texts and emails was off the hook. I took the time to create blocking rules based on domains. You never want to open spam because it signifies you are a live one. It’s been a battle, but now a get just a few when before I got dozens a day. I still block and delete. I have a feeling I am finally winning the war.

Honest to goodness, I never got one of those texts until I read this thread. One day later, "Reece" sent me a text about a "potential position." I blocked the number.

I've been getting one or two scam texts a day recently, saying something like "Hi, this is Callie from Geminon Worldwide talent recruiting. I came across your resume recently, and you have exactly the skill set we are looking for. Ready for an exciting remote opportunity? Reply yes to learn more!" Oh, they came across my resume, did they? Funny, I took down my LinkedIn profile five years ago, and haven't updated my resume or posted it anywhere in at least 12 years!

Anyone else being plagued by these texts? I always immediately hit the Block and Report Junk button on my iPhone when they come in... but they just keep coming. It's incredible to think anyone would actually fall for these, but I guess enough people do to make it lucrative. Apparently, the goal of most of these is identity theft, because they inevitably will ask for your SS#, your drivers license info, and bank account numbers at some point (e.g., "Now that you've accepted our offer, we'll need some information from you to run a routine background check. Don't worry, this is standard practice for all our new hires!"). 🙄
I got one of those texts a couple weeks ago. It went like this …

“Hello, are you currently working?”

“No, I’m day drinking.”

I didn’t hear back.

I have just received a few e-mails about a party invitation. I did not click on the link, but it was from a site with a .de extension.

I am in the market and have received dozens of emails, texts and calls weekly. I have responded to just 4 of the requests. Two were valid and had calls with the recruiters. One did not respond to my email and the last email response was this morning.

For the email from today, I went to the main website of the listed company (a recruiter company) and sent a email to their "Contact Us" email address asking for the validity of the email request. I sent them a copy of the email I received.

Well I just got a weird one through LinkedIn. Someone sent me an email through LinkedIn asking how we're professionally connected. Something seemed off about the message ("bot-ish") and so I verified that the sender was from an @linkedin.com and the link in the message was to a LinkedIn page. However, their profile page no longer exists and the message isn't in my LinkedIn account.

My guess is that one of my connections had their account compromised. So either LinkedIn shut it down for unusual activity, and/or there was some sort of imbedded tracker in the message that was (or wasn't) working.

To follow up on my own comment, this morning I received a response from the company itself saying that in fact the email and the person that contacted me are valid. I guess I will start doing those type of checks going forward.

Spam is becoming more technologically advanced, so the spammers are able to send out more lures more quickly. I wonder if quantum superposition computing spam, or some variation of, is in our future.

quantum superposition computing spam

 What'da! New term for me. Just read a few things on it and watched a few videos from 6 yrs ago and 7 months ago. I hope humanity finds more benefits from it to counter all the drawbacks.

I don't open any email I do not recognize and I never answer my phone if you are not in my contacts--leave a VM, which rarely anyone does.

If tell your email reader not to load any images/links in your emails when open them, they'll have no way to know the email was opened.
I can create blocking rules, but I don't see an option for what you describe.

Here's the setting in Gmail. Pretty sure Thunderbird (Firefox's email client) and Outlook have similar settings.

No idea what "dynamic email" is, but it sounds like something I wouldn't want either. :)

I mostly get texts offering to buy my house. To the extent I answer at all, I double what the thing is worth. No takers… 😎
