Setting up new on-line accounts

I've needed mine the past several years to pay fourth quarter additional taxes on my Roth conversion, using EFTPS.
Your mileage may vary...
Can you pay estimated IRS taxes with your ID.ME account only,
or do you also need EFTPS set up as well?

To clarify, ID.me is the authentication service that multiple government agencies use to validate you who you are. It is not an IRS website.

Step 1: get a valid ID.me account at ID.me's website or you can also get there from a button on the IRS website.

Then to sign into the IRS website: You go to the IRS website. Click to sign in to your account. It passes your request to ID.me, where you provide your ID.me username/password and pass their validation. ID.me passes you back to the IRS website which now lets you into your account.

Once you are inside your IRS account on the IRS website, you can make estimated tax payments. This is a relatively new capability of the IRS online account. Within the last 2 years, I think.

EFTPS is a separate way to make estimated payments to the IRS. It has been around for many years.
DirectPay is another separate way to make estimated payment to the IRS. It has been around for many years.

Right. DirectPay is very easy. You can just go and pay estimated or any federal taxes, no signing up for an account. EFTPS, last I knew, had quite a complicated sign-up process.

When I was thinking I might have an issue with whitholding, I just did a 401k withdrawal in August and had 100% withheld for taxes. Both State and Fed. beats the heck out of quarterly payments.

I can pay 2025 estimated taxes all in one shot with direct pay if I do it by 4/15/2025, correct? It looks like it would work.
