Share Your 2024 Milestones

Unless we have a calamity, 2024 will be our first year with a 0.00% withdrawal rate. Haven't withdrawn anything in 2024. Live off SS, DW's pension, and proceeds from an annuity.

I don't track DW's spending, but mine is below 2/3 of 2021,2022 and 2023 levels.

I suspect that we will spend more and withdraw some in 2025.

Spreadsheet below does not include December, 2024, but December income > expenses.

Your spending is much lower too this year. Does a lot of spending happen in Dec?

We broke a quarterly increase record of $131k. Also the running 12 mo increased >$400k, income and growth inclusive.

Spending is on track to = last year's @ ~$70k all-in. Lots of travel the past 2 years.

Starting to get 7&10 yr treasuries for longer term income. New for us.

I put credit card spending in for the month that I make the credit card payment. I know probably not correct but easier for me. I don't have a lot of expenses this month, but they'll be paid and accounted for next month.

We did go to Las Vegas in November, so I will have larger than normal credit card bills due in December. Preliminary numbers are about $5100 that is about the same as income.

Previous years spending was high in 2021 when I bought a vehicle - probably around $37k of withdrawal.
And 2022 when I bought a Polaris side by side with about $20k withdrawal.
We haven't done any remodeling since 2018, so I suspect that 2020-2023 withdrawals outside of these vehicle purchases was travel related.

Milestones reached this year
Achieved and maintained $7M
Now within 10% of targets for AA
Saw an eclipse with my wife and kids (flew across the country to see it)
Installed rain barrels on the house
Replaced 2 gutters (one 60 ft long)
Started a compost pile
Cleaned the the garage and house (mostly) and cleaned the shed completely
I think cleaning out your garage might be the most impressive of these milestones. : )

Well done to all of them!

$979,000 all time high. No RE. All index funds total U.S stock market.

46, Single, No kids. My goal was to be a millionaire before 50. I am getting closer. This is the first time in my life that I will make at least $70k salary. I know this is nothing for most of you high earners but it means a lot to me. I am battling mental illness. Let’s go underdogs.

I have been retired for 1 yr 9 mo. I have only sold from the portfolio once, and as it turned out, I didn't need to. That cash is still sitting in a MMF. Our portfolio has gone up about 30% in that time. We have been living off dividends from VTI and VXUS, RSUs vesting, and Stock Options. Gotta love a bull market.

I pulled money from the kids' 529s this morning for 2024. With the recent run up, we can probably pay for grad school too.

So far so good on SORR. I'll wait another 3 years when I will turn 60 to loosen the purse strings.

Don't tell my DW or we will have a very merry Christmas. :2funny:

That is outstanding!!!! You will make the millionaire club before you get 50. I demand You do!!! Great job one dollar at a time.

Today I am up one million dollars in investable assets since I retired April 2017 at age 51.

I had 625k when I retired (no pension). I am a renter. I was down to 585k Christmas 2018 and again in 2020.

1.625 million for a single is equivalent to 2.32 million for a couple.
That is Great!

Did you ever own?

Hit $4M net worth today, a little less than 10 years after hitting the two comma club. Amazing how that has happened in such short time.
What is your allocation? Just curious.

I passed $2.3M these past few days. That's up $860k since retiring five years ago. Not bad for not having a job! :)
wow. What is your allocation and withdrawal percentage? Just curious.

Our allocation is about 99:1, mostly index etfs, but some individual stocks. This has fluctuated and I tried market timing around Covid which set me back. Was spot on early on before the drop, but I was late getting back in.
A lot of our growth has come from income properties that we have acquired over the last eight years. Our ROI on those investments is 22% and the investment has grown 225% from an initial $250k.
After a closer look at the numbers I have found that our invested assets have grown 200% over the last ten years, including contributions, so I am lagging the s&p500 on the investment side.

Our total portfolio balance (doesn't include assets like home) is up 76% since retiring at the end of March 2020. At that time our AA was approximately 50/50. We've allowed that to drift up to 68.5% equity.

We are far beyond what we expected.

I hover in the 80/20 range (it has creeped higher than 80 recently) between IRA and Roth. I was fortunate enough to be able to build a large brokerage acct position before retiring so I have been using that for annual expenses and Roth conversions. My retirement cash position will be depleted in ~18 months so I'll need to start backfilling that soon.

Portfolio value crossed $5M sometime in the last couple weeks. Net worth is around $6M.

This is rather mind boggling to me. At this point, we have gained more than $1M since Jan. 1, and will still be so after I withdraw for next year's spending. We've been quite BTD this year.

Some amazing milestones thanks for sharing them.

I like your posts because we are similar in a lot of ways. I'm also 46, single, and no kids with similar salaries. I like having nieces and nephews - spoil them and then send them home LOL.

And I hit $900k for this first time this week!

Portfolio now has basically doubled since I retired almost 8 years ago. And that includes me withdrawing money every year. Incredibly grateful.
