Share Your 2025 Milestones

You may discover that you can cut back elsewhere if needed when one of those pesky lumpy expenses pops up. Almost 20 years experience has shown me that.
That's encouraging to hear. We have a lot of discretionary expenses so I think this will be true for us as well. Next milestone will be FatFIRE target!

I’ve pretty much decided that in 2025 I have to start adapting to the reality of being in the middle of the Senior Citizen part of life. Time to purge a lot of things from my life that made sense when I first retired over 10 years ago, but now are just minor nuisances at best and obstacles to happy life at worst.

Minimalism is the word of the year for 2025,

Hope you are both correct from what happened today in markets.
Okay it did just get harder. Have faith though. Some of the Mag 7 report earnings this week, so hopefully good numbers to offset the Chinese AI announcement which mainly drove the losses today.

It's super wild and crazy out there! Equities down hard but APPL way up? You never know!!

And DH explained how stupid the NVDA sell off was because the Chinese AI Open Source ChatGPT was using NVDA chips!!

Typical market silliness.

At your young age, 5% just might be pushing it a bit but I assume you will have SS available at 62. That helps a lot especially if you can be flexible in your spending if there is a temporary hit to the stock market.

Best luck. Good to see you posting.

I just do a very simple calc every week updating account balances weekly and spend monthly. Not really thinking about going full Johnny Paycheck just yet. Haven't really even tried the long form FIRE calc models. High level though when that number gets down to 3% that would be a pretty good sign I'm ready to go, correct?

17 years retired.
Now collecting retirement benefits longer from last employer than I w*rked for them, and will continue. Will take some time before collecting SS longer than w*rking years.
Gotta keep on being healthy and mobile.:2funny:

I always enjoy reading everyone's milestones. Thanks for sharing them!!

This could be a milestone day for many. December 2024 was my high and I will look later tonight but I'm thinking I will exceed my last today. Time will tell.

Our big milestone will be to "truly" hit FI number this year! We have been "kind of" FI last year but I kept piling on "once in a decade costs" as amortized "expense" on my annual spend which has crept up projected annual spending. I am still dreading because I am afraid I will still discover some retirement expense that I haven't thought of yet. I have already accounted for healthcare, taxes, increased hobby+travel budget, car replacement (amortized), etc.
Well... I had a bummer moment yesterday while looking at my expense tracking sheet. I realized that I was using "tax multiplier" in both monthly total AND again in annual total. Which means I was estimating taxes twice in our projected expenses. It turns out we were already FI as of 2024 yearend.

Sounds like a great moment!

Well, no milestone on highest portfolio for me. I thought with good markets yesterday I would have done better.

Darn!!

US government has banned the selling of Nvidia AI chips to China, no surprise they still can get them.

I was actually thinking about you this morning, as I added up my totals. I would have hit a new high point, except I had an RMD of $2500 come out on Feb 5. I had managed to peak on 1/30/25. I'm currently $1206 below that peak.

I'm really glad we have this forum, where we can celebrate each other's milestones like this. I know a lot of people who are in rough shape right now. So talking about something like this would just feel like rubbing their noses in it.

We were "That Close" but the day will come or go the other way. Lol

Yes, it is great to be able to share each other's high times and be free to talk about personal finance with others of like interests.

I hope you hit a new high in the near future. Thanks

We hit $4M this week., rental property values are equivalent to investments value. But there is $1.4M in mortgage debt that will be erased over the next 30 years.

$992,700 all-time high reached. All index funds. No RE. Age: 47. Single, no kids.

When will I hit a million?
If you're like many of us, you'll hit $1M soon. Then the markets will correct, and you'll drop below $1M, but then there'll be a rebound, and you'll be back over $1M. After 2 or 3 cycles, hopefully you'll stay above $1M when there's a correction, unless it's a major correction like we had in 2020. Then I suggest you invest as much as you can when the funds are on sale.

Be patient... It's going to happen eventually. I had to wait until I was age 49.

It could be today if S&P has a decent day.

Well this is a fun game we have been playing it for several months now.
How much do you have in checking/savings maybe you are already there.
If not probably in the next 2 weeks.
