Should I take Power of Attorney responsibility

I am so sorry you are going through this with your friend. Dementia is horrible on family and friends.
You are a caring person, best wishes to you if you choose to continue to navigate this.

... Ok, so we were there at 10am, we talked, he didn't remember several things that happen recently, like a hospital visit, a 3 week stay in Oklahoma, where he threatened to call the police and report them for kidnapping if the didn't take him home, among other things. While there he said I'm going to talk to the nurse about getting out of here, the nurse placated him by saying yes, I will check on that for you and reassured him. As soon as he returned I went and talked to the nurse and said you do realize he can't go home, the said "yes, I know, I just reassured him". So, after a bit, we left, both disheartened by how much he has gone downhill...
So now, while talking to Ken I got a call from the social worker that Ken mentioned, I took the call, she reported that the doctor OK'ed Bill to go home today. I gave her a rant about all his memory issues. The reason he was in the hospital si because he was not eating enough to sustain life, just lucky ha was aware enough to call 911. I told her if they want to send him home that is on them, I will not pick him up. I also added, if the doctor doesn't think he is incompetent then it is the doctor that is incompetent. Rant over! ;-)
Unbelievable. I'm sure it is hard to see your friend suffer and be at risk, but at the same time if you "help" you risk getting sucked into an unwinnable situation. Good luck. I'm glad that I am not in your shoes.

Yep, I have already got sucked in more than I wanted. I didn't pick him up and last I knew he was still there, meaning they didn't provide him transportation home. He did call me accusing me of stealing his wallet, I suggested he look around, and he would find it. I called the reception desk and ask if they could look around and find his wallet for him. She laughed and said, ya he's been wondering the halls, asking for his one cup of coffee, several times a day, forgetting that he already had one. She said she couldn't leave her station, She's the door guard to keep patients from walking out.
