Show off your dog..or other pet..and how well he/she is treated (and fed)!

In most localities, poisoning a cat would be a misdemeanor or even a felony. Your choice, but you could alert the authorities. My childhood pet was poisoned by the neighbor. Not good for neighborhood relations, to say the least.
Unfortunately, our animal services and police won’t do anything about people targeting stray animals. Our city is not at all progressive in animal services. They changed to a no kill shelter, which sounds great, but keeps it so overcrowded that they can’t take in any new animals. Asa result, they do very little investigation.

Her name is Pebbles. She is a 10-year-old Havanese mix surrendered when the husband passed away and the wife wanted to move closer to family. She was also sick, but luckily the public shelter was able to remove two benign masses and a bunch of teeth causing an infection.

So now she has 13 teeth, gets soft treats, and canned food. Walks eagerly except if it's cold, or raining, chases a ball, and is a quiet girl who can be a sassy pants. She generally doesn't bark, but will softly vocalize when she needs something and you aren't paying attention.

big fan of soft vocalizations. Peanut can bark like the best of them, but when he is in his kennel and done with the meal he has the softest little "did you forget me?" vocalizations. I will try to record one.

Often time, rescues are the best. They certainly have (well earned) character. DD rescues (wait for it) Great Danes!

Danes are the best dogs, grew up with one. We were considering one, but even though they are "gentle giants", I was concerned about being able to walk one over the next 10-12 years. Too easy to be pulled over as I hit my late 70's, early 80's.
So we settled on a mini golden doodle (who is really more medium at 40 pounds!)

Too easy to be pulled over
A couple years ago I was walking my dog. One of my sweet neighbors wanted to show me some flowers in her garden. She said she would hold the leash while I took a closer look. She was in her mid-80s and weighed less than my dog. There was no way I was giving her the leash. One rabbit and she would have been dragged down the street.

When I was 13-14 years old, there was a family on our street who had a Great Dane named Ichabod. Ichabod loved to play football with all the neighborhood kids. He could block and tackle with the best of us, but you could never let him have the ball because you would never get it back.

One of my college buddies after we got out of the military decided to live at home and raise Great Danes. After a while, their back yard looked like the aftermath of a bombing run in Vietnam!

Actually, 10 to 12 years would be very long life for a Dane. Our daughter has lost several in the 7 to 9 year range. They give her all the "problem" Danes (like a mom AND her pup - with separation anxiety issues or one with special dietary restrictions). DD is outweighed by every one of the Danes she's had.

they don't live very long, that's for sure. The one I grew up with was 10 or 11 when it was"it was time". Great family dogs though.

While reading this I envision a Marmaduke cartoon.

Tomorrow Tessie is getting a dental and needs to have between 8-14 teeth pulled and a growth on her gum removed . She’s the black dog and she’s requesting lots of prayers to help her through this journey. The poor thing has probably never had a dental. She’s the easiest dog I have ever rescued.

I suspect she'll feel better after the extractions. It's a fact that dogs have the same number of teeth whether large or small, and most toys have more teeth than their jaw should accommodate. I have a friend with a borzoi (Russian wolfhound), and if you look at her dentition the teeth actually look spread out.
That's why dental care ( i.e., cleanings) is more important for small dogs.
My vet thinks that the dental-care food that's available by prescription can help with dental maintenance. We have a mini-aussie in addition to our bigger dog, and we've been feeding her the dental prescription food maybe four feeds a week (out of 14) for the last couple years. A year ago her vet said her teeth looked much better than in the previous year. That said, she'll go in for a dental this year.

I fed max the dental food once a day for almost a year. Then he developed an allergy to it but it definitely helped. Little dogs tend to have a lot of dental problems.

The dental diets I'm familiar with, Pro Plan and Royal Canin, both have a high corn content. So it's not an ideal food for every day, IMO. I liked to spread out feeding it.
I'm not sure if corn removes tartar, but I assume that's why it's in the food. I wouldn't be surprised if a dog had trouble digesting it.

The problem is proving it... One of my sisters lived on a few acres of land and her dog got out and never came back... she asked around and was told that if it went to X's house it was probably dead... people around knew that dogs went there and did not come back but there was no proof of the crime...
Exactly. Even though this man has told people he does this, it would be hard to prove he did it in a particular instance. Our city animal services is not very interested in investigating animal cruelty unless you have video or they see it themselves. It’s very frustrating.

Unfortunately, that's true of most "crimes." We have laws against the use of fireworks, but they are (well, were) never enforced. You could call the police and "rat" on your neighbor, but they wouldn't ever even come check. Even videotaping people in the act doesn't count because it's too easy (in court) to poke holes in video evidence. Bottom line (until recently) fireworks of virtually any kind are (were) de facto legal.

That just might change now that 6 people have died due to an accident involving fireworks. I'm STILL not convinced that anything will change but YMMV.

This is Amy and she’s a retired show dog. 5 years ago her career was over and luckily I met her owner and we hit it off. She ended up giving me 3 dogs.

She just turned 11 but 2 years ago was diagnosed with heart disease. She’s the smartest Maltese I’ve ever had. She watches tv and barks at animals and people she doesn’t like.

Sometimes when you hold her she looks deeply at you. More than one person has commented that she’s stealing their soul 🤣. This morning she was pooping blood so sadly tonight she will cross the rainbow bridge. I hope her relatives are there to meet her. I’m heartbroken.
