Question, I could not readily find. I am 62 late October this year. If I am reading correctly, my first check would be Nov. Can I apply now in June, or is that too early? I've heard "3 months prior". If that is correct, and my first check would be Nov, then it seems Aug would be the month to apply. I guess what I am asking is there any harm in applying early? Any drawbacks? Or should I wait a few months? Thank you!

Only at 62 yo, you need to have been 62 for a full month before you can collect SS, which makes December your first payment. SS is always paid the month after. You can apply in July.

You're gonna love Social Security! Likely, it's on top of all your efforts to save for retirement so likely it will feel like a bonus. Enjoy! Let us know what it's like when you receive your first check.

Thank you! Will do. And yes, SS is on top of enough for us to live nicely right now. I went on the SS site, downloaded their checklist of information needed, penciled it all in, so I am ready. Will apply in July and see how it goes.

1st SS deposit is showing in my available balance today (Sunday), 3 days early but there is no line item identifying the credit. What a feeling!!

That's something you can count on in the future, since the payment schedule almost never changes.
