Social Security Approval

I'm turning 62 in April and recently applied for early social security using the online application.  When I check the status of my application it says that no decision has yet been reached and that I will be notified by mail once a decision is made.

Has anyone used the online method before--and, if so, how long did it take to get a final decision?

Hven't used the online account.

However, I suspect that the government employees took one look at your account and thought that they can sit on it until the last week of March or so.

I am sure that you are apprehensive about getting it started. However the outcome is inevitable. They will make good on paying you the money that you are due.

I did the online early SS application last year at this time - just looked for my notes and couldn't find them - What I remember is that I filled out the online form which concluded that you are to (1) take that form and your birth certificate, military service, etc, and (2) personally trot down to the local SS office to complete the process.

I took my stuff to SS the next day and had a little sit-down with a clerk, verifying the information in the online application.   After a 10 minute interview, I had an estimate of my SS payment and an unofficial estimate date for the first payment.    I thought this part of the SS process was very efficient - yea for the online application.  I got my SS Notice of Award five days later (just found the notes from last year).

Since you were born in April, you should get your first SS check or direct deposit in June 2006.

I did the online thing about 3 years ago at age 62. Worked just fine. Had to mail in my 214's (Military Documents to prove service for the Mil Svc Credits) and my birth certificate. As I remember it they were mailed to the then local (Jacksonville, FL SS Office). They sent the back quickly and money went to the bank on day one. Also did the online application for my wife 3 years earlier than mine and all was fine also (her birth records were not in english). In her case I think they just relied on her Naturalization Certificate.

Additionally, after my application went in, they CALLED my wife at home and asked when she would like her increased dollars because my rater was more than double her then current rate.

We all tend to pick on the Gov Empl but, as far as I am concerned they do a very good job, especially the SS Administration.

I just applied for my SS I turn 62 in August
As stated above I had to send in my documents and had the most pleasant chat with a SS worker in Alabama. It appears all is in order and I will recieve a check to my bank sometime in October. If they don't get back to you I am sure an email or phone call will explain everything. The gov employees I have delt with have been most pleasant. Of course being a retired gov employee might help when talking with them

Turned 62 in March. Applied online December. Received letter with a postage paid envelope asking for birth certificate. Mailed it and it was returned a few weeks later with a letter stating I would be receiving direct deposit second Wednesday of each month starting in May. I was pleasantly surprised with the ease of the entire process. For some reason I had visions of the post office or irs. They did this one right. I now refer to SS as my gummunt check.

After retiring, I went to the social security office to apply for Social Security.
The woman behind the counter asked me for my driver's license to verify my age.

I looked in my pockets and realized I had left my wallet at home. I told the woman that I was very sorry but I seemed to have left my wallet at Home "I will have to go home and come back later." The woman says, "Unbutton your shirt." So I opened my shirt revealing my curly silver hair.  She says, "That silver hair on your chest is proof enough for me" and she processed my Social Security application. 

When I got home, I told my wife about my experience at the social security office.  She says, "You should have dropped your pants. You might have gotten disability too."

That's funny Billy! I never had anyone drop their pants, but I have seen many scars and skin problems on various body parts. I have tried to get some of those images out of my mind!

I was a T2 claims representative when I retired. (I was never in management, as someone on this board thought.) When one is taking a disability claim and asking about their disabilities, some thought it was a good idea to show you!

I am still in NYC staying with my 95 yo father. I have been his main contact with social, financial and medical people. I still am in the process of transfering the day to day responsibilities to my 3 brothers. That's going to be a tough task to accomplish.
Hope to be on the road to Tucson in late July. Leaving NY with no definite plans has been a lot harder than I imagined.

Thanks for letting me know I wonder sometimes who reads my blog. I know family and friends do and few others from my past life as an employed person. I have more news coming up about my life in Kentucky. There is always something going on, on a farm.
