My brother sends me a monthly newsletter which has to do with wave patterns and social behavior, with every issue another gloom and doom prediction. I take it with a grain of salt, but I thought I should run some phrases through "Google Trends" and see if there is any increase in certain adverse topics.

For example, attached are a few Google Trends for different phrases used in Google searches by users over the past 5 - 8 years. The phrases I entered are ones which I feel might be popular based on some of the things I see happening around me (for example more robberies on the news, depressed people, money problems, people feeling overworked, etc.). I found the results pretty much what I expected.

What's the y-axis? is it a normalized measure or absolute counts of search queries?
