In going thru my files at year end, I found an envelope that has a stock certificate from a company I worked for briefly in the '80s. The company has merged with another company and I also had a Letter of Transmittal which I never completed. :-[ Can I still do this? It's not a great amt of money but enough to fund an IRA.

Any help is appreciated.

I had a problem like that with my mother in-law. We opened an account for her at Fidelity and they handed off the certificate to a specialist who resolved the problem.

Their customer service to our family has been outstanding for many years, and we are not wealthy by any means.

I was in a similar situation and the answer is yes. Make sure you fill in the appropriate information on the back of the certificate and sign it. Call the brokerage (in my case, it was Mellon Investor Services) responsible for the reorg. to make sure that you have the latest transmittal form and the address to send the stock certificate and the form.

Thanks all, I feel better now. Judy 8)
