Suggestions for a trip to Sapporo?

Heading to Sapparo in mid-December, and looking for any recommendations on places to eat and things to do. We're huge fans of trying local places, hole in the walls, etc, so please send your suggestions!

The Sapparo ice festival is in February. This is a must see.

I was there in June 2023 (third visit) and rented a bike from the tourist information in the train station to tour the city. There are many restaurants in the train station and department stores.

I like Sapporo in the summer but...I visited once in December and hated the snow, cold, and darkness: awful.

If you enjoy snowboarding or skiing, I highly highly recommend hitting the slopes there on Hokkaido -- truly some of the best snow & biggest runs I've ever had the pleasure of riding. Better than Colorado, Utah, Alaska, or anywhere else I've visited.

Also second the recommendation of waiting until the ice festival in February. It's #3 (after Mt Fuji & Hokkaido snowboarding) on my bucket list of things to do while I'm living here in Japan.
