T-Mobile 55+ Unlimited Data Plans, What?

^^^ Ok, but why are you comparing 4G vs 5G, when USM has 5G too?

Because my test phone is a Pixel 2XL, which is five years old and is not a 5G phone. It's going to give me 4G and only 4G. That's the phone I put the US Mobile SIM card into. My daily driver phone is the Pixel 5a with 5G.

I suppose I could temporarily stick the US Mobile SIM card in my Pixel 5a and then go to the same places, run the speed tests and compare these US Mobile 5G speeds with the 5G speeds I got on my 5a with the Verizon SIM card installed. But I'm unsure what happens to my Verizon account access if suddenly another SIM card not associated with my phone's ID number shows up on Verizon's network. In other words, I'm afraid to try it for fear of being locked out of Verizon's network.

I think the speed differences are negligible. As long as you’re consistently over a couple Mbps, the most important part is reliable connectivity (and low latency). If you need quicker speeds, find a wifi hotspot.

I think you're right. The lowest speed I've encountered so far is the 5.89 Mbps reading and from what I've read that's plenty of speed to watch 1080p video without stuttering. The ping times (latency times) have been outstanding across the board, usually in the low teens.

Just got a text, my 55 plan is being "retired" and I get to pay $6 more a line!

Wow they have a comparison page and they're trying to BS me. They say with my new plan I will get 5G access for free whereas I didn't have it before.

No I've had 5G ever since they started that network.

The only other benefit I would get is Netflix for free and Apple TV for just $3 a month.

Wow international calling is 50 cents a minute? It used to be 25 cents.

I have the Magenta 55+ with 3 lines for $105 including taxes fees and Netflix.

Supposeldly good for life. Don't "agree" to let them bully you off these plans.

We’re on a T-Mobile Magenta 55+ plan too, $70/month (no other taxes or fees) for two lines unlimited - and we were told there would never be a price increase. That would be great but I assume some day they’ll find a way to break it. We’re planning on buying new iPhones next year, maybe then?

Well the new plan they're offering is called:

Experience Signature w/ 55+ Savings

And they promise 5-year lock in on price.

As it happens, I got a free year of mobile phone on Xfinity Mobile so I added it as a second eSIM on my plan.

Time to check out MintMobile, which is the same as T-Mobile, but cheaper.

I had been with TMobile for the last 5 years or so at $65 for the Magenta Max 55 plan. I liked the 5Gb of international data they provided. Netflix and Hulu for free was nice, but I rarely used it. My best friend, who just retired and lost his corporate discount with Verizon, got me looking into US Mobile.

I switched last week and am happy so far. I paid $299 up front for the year (just under $25/month) which will rise to about $33 next year, if I recall. I have the Ultimate Premium plan which is currently on AT&Ts network, but I can switch it to Verizon or TMobile any time I want, as often as I want. It also gives 20Gb of international data in most countries.

So far, I’m very happy. My friend is coming to my house tomorrow to switch his to the same plan.

For the past four years we have two lines with Verizon and pay a total with tax $55 (prepay and loyalty discount applied). Personally, I've been with VZ for 20 years or so.

Looks like they no longer offer Magenta plans. Instead it's these Experience plans.

Yeah, I'm not too happy about the change. We were with Sprint and now T-Mobile which means, we've never actually changed carriers - ever, and I started using a mobile phone back when they were a car phone in a bag - so a long time. Unfortunately, I've not seen any real appreciation for being what has to be one of their oldest customers so maybe it's time to look into switching. I hate the thought of it because I'd hate to lose our number. Being one of the first, it's a pretty good number. Not the actual number, but it's similar to this - 893-9000. Silly, I know, but I really want to keep that number. And, yes, I know that it's supposed to work. I just don't want to risk it and to date I've had no good financial reason to do so.

Consumer Cellular with AARP discount. 2 lines, unlimited voice & text, shared 5 gig of data. All for under $50 / month.

Another happy Mint Mobile customer here, $15 per month per line with 6GB of data. I don't need unlimited data so I just buy what I need using an eSim provider like Airalo for International trips.

I got the same text today. Rates raised by $6 per line. I sort of remember that the original rate was no contract and 'guaranteed for life', but haven't found where that was actually promised. I've been on the ONE Plan Unlimited 55 for years.

The only wording I've found says 'Those were our commitments that only you have the power to change what you pay for your monthly talk, text, and data rate plan. We will pay your final month's recurring service charge if we raise prices and you choose to leave.' So, not much of a guarantee - if we raise the price, you can leave with this parting gift.

But - the T-Mobile plan is valuable to me for the unlimited overseas text and data. It's worked pretty seamlessly in every country that I've been to. So I supposed I'll have to swallow the increase.

Yep, T-Mobile did the same to me and I left, same wording and they paid my final month. Went to US Mobile and no regrets. The first year I paid for their Unlimited Starter plan, which gave me unlimited data with 1GB of international roaming. It was $270 for the year. 2nd year with US Mobile I decided I'd pay $390/year for their Unlimited Premium plan which gives me 20GB of international data. No more having to buy eSIMs when traveling and my phone automatically works wherever I land.

I also switched over to the Verizon network, which gives me free Apple Watch cell access (even though I hardly use it).

I've had no issues with their service and it's significantly cheaper than what I was paying with T-Mobile, and works just as well.

Note that US Mobile often have promotions for new customers. Right now you can get the Unlimited Premium plan for $299 for the first year or the starter plan for $199.

ETA: Here's the thread where their last price increase was discussed: T-Mobile May 22 Price increase

I got the same text yesterday as well. T-Mobile customer for over 20 years and currently have 4 lines and internet on the Magenta +55 plan. It’s clear the change in CEO in recent years and majority owner Deutech Telekom plan to merge them is leading these changes. The $5 per line increase recently also piss’d me off.

I’m now going to port over to an MVNO maybe Mint but they’re also owned by T-Mobile. Google Fi or US mobile?

From what I've read, those with legacy T-Mobile plans that are being upgraded will still pay less than new customers on those newer plans. So it could be worse.
I've been a happy T-Mobile customer for many years and will most likely stay with them.

I have not received the email or text as of yet, but have T-Mobile with 2 lines and Home Internet (as we have no internet provider in our neighborhood) so I will be sticking with them. Their Internet is super fast (or at least fast enough) and we can watch multiple TV streams + more without any buffering or other issues.

UPDATED: Went to website and says Magenta 55+ and is the same price last 12 months for the 2 phones and Home Internet - $140/month. No notice of changes or anything (yet).

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. The text I got only said my "kickback" on lines is going away. With the amount of use outside the home, that has largely vanished anyway.

I've been with T-Mobile since John L. was CEO and was out there selling the whole "Un-Carrier" promise of "no price increases ever". Over the years, T-Mobile has found creative ways to work around that pledge. I think I started on Simple Choice, then my plan evolved a few times without me doing anything, and now I'm on ONE Plan... whatever that is....

Right now I'm paying $248 for 11 lines. Only 8 are actually in use, the other 3 are "free" lines they added over the years. They belonged to parents, who have since passed away. Since those lines don't cost me anything, there's really no incentive to remove them.

On top of that, I get Netflix for $13 ($7 discount), Hulu (w/ads), and free international roaming, which is useful since I cruise a lot. Also free international roaming, which is very helpful as I cruise often and get free text/data in every port.

I've looked around at other carriers, and despite T-Mobile not exactly living up to the Un-Carrier promise that convinced me to leave Verizon over a decade ago, I still can't find anything that's actually cheaper, even at a base rate (excluding the extra benefits I get). Even MintMobile doesn't come out ahead. Spectrum looked like a great deal when they first launched, but, surprise... those prices have gone up too and no longer worth changing.

So no, I'm not happy that T-Mobile quietly reneged on the Un-Carrier promises, but after shopping around, it feels like my choices are pretty much limited to staying put and saying, "Thank you, sir... May I have another".

I pay US Mobile $15 a month for unlimited text and voice, and 5 Gigs of data. Additional data is $2 a gig.

Previously I had the T-mobile senior plan that started at $60 but was boosted to $70 a month for two lines. The person using the second line also has a new contract with unlimited everything for $30 a month. The Un-carrier is now officially dead, IMO.

I can choose with of the three major networks I want to use for my phone. Switching costs a few dollars. And, of course, since the number is being ported, there is a short period of outage. I've done it once.

Overall I am happy with their service.

Does any cell plan still places limits on text and voice?

Tello is an attractive choice for (very) low-cost plans that use the T-Mobile network. They have a $6/month plan that includes 100 minutes of talk and 1GB of data. I have this on a secondary/backup iPhone, and it works perfectly for what I need.

EDIT: Looks like they may have discontinued this $6 plan. Lowest I see now is $8/month for 300 minutes of talk and 2GB data. I guess I'm grandfathered into the other one.
