T-Mobile 55+ Unlimited Data Plans, What?

Were thinking of switching from T Mobile to Mint. If we bundle 2 phones and Mint internet it's 15 per line and 30 for internet. So 60.00 plus tax versus t mobile current 2 lines 35 per line and Cox at 50.00 is 120.00. So we would be cutting our phone and Internet bill in half. Mint is prepay but not a big deal to pay annually for those kinds of savings. They do mention 5 year rate lock which is good.

We had been with T-Mobile for over a decade. After two price increases we cancelled and got a shared plan on US Mobile today. Our new plan price at T-Mobile would have been $96 a month and our 10GB shared data plan for my wife and I is $28/month. We typically us less than 5GB a month of data and if we need more data due to travel then we still come out ahead.

I just switched to the essentials 55+ plan. $22 savings over the new shaft the seniors plan.

It seems there are/were more than one flavor of "55+" plan. Which were you on that the Essentials 55+ saves you $22? I see the OP of this thread was on the "Magenta MAX 55+."

In my case, T-Mobile is switching me from the "ONE Plan Unlimited 55+" to the "Experience Signature With 55+ Savings."

Magenta, Essentials, Experience ... all too confusing to me.

What did you find that was better? I looked, even with the rate screw-over by TMo, my plan is still lower priced and better perks than anything else I could find.

I believe there are Essentials 55+, Experience More 55+, Experience Beyond 55+ and you list the Experience Signature 55+

Magenta is no more, so you can forget that one.

I have a Magenta Max 55. It looks similar to the Experience options. Two differences stand out. One is the Experience plans have more hotspot data and the other is the Magenta plan price includes all taxes and fees. I think I’ll keep it until T-Mobile forces me off.

As I understand it, you can switch among AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon.

So different international coverage depending on which domestic network.

But to switch, you may pay a fee depending on the plan and you need an eSIM capable phone to switch back and forth.

Also it seems like you have to pay annually instead of monthly?

But a bunch of MVNOs with lower prices if you don't use as much data or need freebies like Hulu or Netflix or international data roaming.

Xfinity Mobile is not bad if you have home service with them, they have two plans, $30 or $45 per line. They are making a big push into mobile, while selling off TV assets.

You don't have to pay annually, but you can. Paying annually gives you a discounted price. I just signed up for their top tier plan, paid annually. I paid $299 for the year, which works out to $24.92 per month. I can switch between AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon networks any time I want and as often as I want. But yes, the lower tier plans limit the number of times you can switch networks and may charge a small fee to do so. There are slight differences in the features of each network. I set up to use AT&T and haven't tried the other networks yet. And probably won't unless I see any issues. So far, so good after about 2 weeks with US Mobile.

I even looked at the MVNO's, found nothing that's less expensive for just straight up service (ignoring the additional perks I get). Right now I'm paying $248 for 11 lines, unlimited text, data, calls. On top of that, I get free international roaming which is very beneficial as I cruise often and get free text/data in every port. And I also get Netflix for $13 ($7 discount) and Hulu (w/ads).

Actually there is a limit on US Mobile depending on the service. As we're talking about T-Mobile (called Lightspeed on US Mobile) the limit is 180 countries. T-Mobile branded plans offer 215 countries & Google Fi offers 200 countries.

I have Unlimited Premium and can transfer between networks as much as I want without any additional charge. Originally I was on T-Mobile, but I moved over to Verizon to get free Apple Watch support. I've used international roaming on both and didn't travel to any country that wasn't covered (Asia and Europe), but maybe there are some that aren't covered. If so, I suspect the number is small and you can always check on their website before traveling.

I pay annually instead of monthly. Not a big deal for me. Originally I paid for a year on Unlimited Starter, but decided to BTD to get 20G international roaming to avoid buying eSIMs when traveling. At $32.50/month, it's very reasonable priced considering what you get.

And yeah, you need an eSIM capable phone, but that's common in all newer phones. Not an issue.

Thanks for the clarification. This hasn't been an issue for me, but it's a good reminder to check that your country is supported before traveling.

Other plans don't have the 5 year price lock plus, I'm gaining Netflix and also, looking at the plan, they also offer to pay for AAA. We have AAA so I don't know how that will work but if they pay for some of that, it makes the increase even that much less.

Correct, it's a one time benefit, so they only pay for a single year of the basic membership. Note, if you have the plus membership (100 mile towing), you have to pay the difference.

Looks like they have purged that option as well now, only plans available for me to upgrade to all start with "Experience". Even searching for "Essentials" on their website, all links now bounce to "Experience" plans. And let me tell you, that's quite and experience as my plan would go up from $245 (taxes included) to $431 PLUS taxes and fees.

Update: I had an "ah ha" moment, the Essentials 55 is only for up to two lines. I have 11, so that's why it's not shown for me. 2 lines is still $30/line PLUS taxes and fees, so no bargain for me with 11 lines and now paying $24.50/line on average.

Good to know but the major selling points were the 5yr lock and Netflix.

I just got off the phone with T-Mobile to inquire about the message regarding rate increases. We are currently on the Magenta 55+ Plan with Netflix, and paying $80 for 2 lines.

She switched us to an Essential Choice 55+ plan including Netflix for $69 dollars.
If I hadn't called, we would have been charged an extra $12 per month (2lines)

It seems I was given wrong information from the first customer service rep. The essential Choice 55+ Plan Does Not include Netflix, but is $69 including taxes. I had to add Netflix myself for $8.99. So the total will be $78 with both.

Still cheaper than the original plan which would have been $92 after the 2-Line increase.

I have used US Mobile now for 2+ years. I moved back to USA from Germany then. I used a pay as you go and Motorola Phone over there. I now use a refurbished Samsung S10 (last one to have audio port). No esim capability. I have traveled all over world and US Mobile has worked fine. They do drop the data limit but you can buy extra at different levels. I was in Australia for a month and bought extra data for $30. I usually am fine with the limit while away for two weeks. The only issue I ran into was having to set up the wholesale mobile network access point on my phone as an option. When I go overseas, I flip the mobile network to the wholesale access point and I am fine. As I travel around I notice I'm on the different mobile networks of the different countries I am visiting. For $30 a month in general and a fairly inexpensive plus up if needed, US Mobile has been a fairly reliable and inexpensive mobile phone plan. I have been and am happy so far.
