tax refund taking 3 months and counting

Be thankful this was an individual return for a living person.

The final refund for my deceased mom took 2 years and an intervention from the Taxpayers Advocate Office.

Kind regards,
Chris

In same boat. My tax guy did my taxes and efiled them getting a 10k refund. After2 1/2 months i get a letter from the IRS stating I owed 3k. After being on hold with the IRS for over 1.5 hrs they told me the efile 1040 line 37 said I owe 3k. Called my tax guy and he efiled a amended return with a 10k refund. Probably going to take 3 months to see it though. So not sure where the problem was whether it was something to do with the IRS, efile or my tax guy.

A quick, mildly interesting update on this...

I received another 60 day delay letter last week with a stated reason of:

"we are waiting for your tax account information to become available on our computer system"

They say I still don't need to do anything. I thought the reason was a bit odd, or maybe humorous? so thought I'd post.

I sent the IRS a payment of $386 this year and I am still in "Accepted" status. I'm worried that this means they are going to audit me.
No changes over here. Five months and they still haven't finalized my return.

Just to button this up, I did receive my refund at the end of October, with interest (8%), although I didn't sit down and try to figure from what date. $448 on $12K owed.

Your lucky, I am still waiting on my refund. At the end of the 16 weeks processing time they told me it will be another 30 days. That came and went and they said another 30 days which will be Dec 6th. So I will wait and see I guess. I probably won't get any interest since they initially blamed it on my tax guy submitting it wrong although the initial submission copy he gave me stated I get a refund.

Nope, I just checked again. Nine months and the status has not changed. I used to think this meant an audit. Now I just think it means they are inefficient...

That is why I always make sure we have to pay monies at tax time, albeit a small amount.
