Call me slow or whatever. I never knew I could create a text macro on my iphone. By macro I mean using just a few keystrokes to represent a longer string of text. For some reason I just started getting slammed with junk emails. A few have 1 click to unsubscribe but most link to a website to click around, enter email addy, etc. It dawned on my maybe there’s a way….and sure enough there is. Now I can type a few keys into a textbox, hit enter and my 17 character email address fills the box.

People who send junk e-mail don't care about your preferences. If you follow a link to "unsubscribe," all you're doing is telling them that your e-mail address is valid and being read. This will result in you going to the top of the list of addresses to send more junk to. And they sell those lists to each other, so you'll be getting more junk going forward.

There is one exception to this. Legitimate companies often allow you to log on to their legitimate web site (not any old link you got in an e-mail) and select preferences for your account, usually including what sort of e-mail notifications you want. These selections are usually respected. Of course they can always sell your contact information to other companies, including spammers, so you want to minimize the number of companies you give your real e-mail address to.

The unsubscribe mostly works for me but it’s difficult to tell sometimes and not surprised if the scumiest one ignore the request. One click unsubscribe should be law.
