Thailand trip report

Many of the newer scooters and mopeds that I saw in Thailand were electric. But the older ones appear to have two-stroke engines (which tend to spew black smoke)
Still lots of two-stroke, but probably better maintained or the more modern ones run a little cleaner. The biggest difference is in tuktuks and taxis. Lots (most?) have been CNG for years, and now there are more and more e-tuktuks. It's not clean forest air, but the difference from back in the old days is dramatic.

Chinese EVs seem to be becoming common - there are huge billboards for them on the highway right as you exit Suvarnabhoomi. Out of the dozen or so Grab rides we took, about a third of them were in Chinese EVs. I was extremely impressed with all of them, especially the Aion Y Plus Premium.

We are in the midst of planning what may be our last snowbird trip to Thailand. Flights booked, the first week is planned. The following weeks...no firm plan and spontaneous travel with stops as we are so inclined.

This time we are flying into Kuala Lumpur. Then making our way to Penang, then across the border to Songkhla. Then up the coast to N. Si. Thammarat, Khanom beach for a week or two.

After that Ao Nang, then over to Ko Lak, Ko Lanta, etc and down the Adaman coast south to KL for our flight home. Maybe a detour to Singapore for a few days.

Over the years we have spent a good deal of our snowbird time bouncing along the Adaman coast/islands.

Very much looking forward to getting back to Thailand. It has been our all time favorite snowbird destination since retiring 14 years ago. Have not been back since covid.
