The I Bond Thread

If you just need your tax information for the year, it's available now. Log in, go to "ManageDirect", then "Manage My Taxes" and click on "Year 2024".

Strange, my 1099 isn't available yet, but I can see the record of my transactions. For me, it says the 1099's will be available by the end of January.

Treasury Direct will have a note in your online account messages letting you know the 1099-INT form is available and a link to it.

It only generates that form for years you have redeemed an IBond and assumes all the interest accumulated is taxable.
Thank you. I’ll keep checking back. I did cash in a few this year.

They are not available yet for 2024. I’ll check back in a few weeks.
Strange. I helped my aunt and uncle with delivering gifts and redemptions on January 3, 2025 and their 1099s for 2024 were available for them. I printed them since I do their tax return and don't want to have to get back into Treasury Direct again.

Now their 2024 1099 income was from redemptions in January 2024 so I don't know if perhaps that is why they were availableor them.

Vanguard just posted mine today, ahead of the January 29 estimate

I did get an email from Treasury Direct today and my 1099 is available. DH did not get an email, but when we checked, his 1099 was there also.

I signed on to TD 3 days ago and printed out my Forms 1099. I don't recall getting an email.

No, they don’t notify you by email, or at least never have me, but they do leave a message in your TD account. Maybe something changed.

I got the TD email this morning. I sold bonds last year so that is probably why.

Dear Account Owner:
Please check the Investor InBox section of your TreasuryDirect account and all linked accounts, if applicable, for important tax information.

Thank you for using TreasuryDirect.
Please do not reply to this message.

We have several ibonds purchased in that have 0.0 fixed rate. I'm going to sell them next week and use the proceeds to purchase new ibonds to the limit and the excess will go into CD's.

I did not get an email but thanks to this thread I did go on Treasury Direct and there was indeed a 1099-INT.

I started my tax return yeaterday and had to, for the last time, log into 5 different TD accounts to get documents of our 1099s for 2024. I already knew the amounts but I just wanted the 1099s as documentation for my tax records. Glad to be done with TD.

I have a few 1.3% and two 0.9% Ibonds having sold the 0% and .4% bonds earlier this month. I’ll keep the 1.3% Ibonds as emergency funding. For long term money, TIPS seem like a better deal today yielding 2.2% over inflation when held to maturity.

For tax reasons, I will probably hold off selling the 0.9% bonds until next year, unless inflation surges later in this year.

And I got the email this morning.

It will be my last, since I sold all my iBonds last January.

This is weird - I sold some old I bonds last December (2024) and I still don’t have a 1099 for them on their website. I know what I received and how much of that was interest, but I’d like to have an official document before I file my federal taxes.

Same here I sold in March and no 1099 for 2024. Funny, I did receive the email from TD saying I could get my 1099 a few days ago.
I also know how much interest.
Did you contact TD?

I tried, but got a generic answer that they were coming in February. However, I went to check again on Sunday and 2024 still wasn’t there. I refreshed the page and it popped up for 2024. It’s not like I actually needed it as I had printed out the page after I redeemed them and it showed the taxable amount and taxes withheld for each bond, but I prefer to have an official document, so now I do. I don’t know why it took so long, so it’s always a good idea to print out the page showing your redemption. I never received an email on this from them.
