The opposite of snow-birding in Colorado

Garden of the Gods is really nice.
Golden, CO, and a stroll or float down the river walk is super nice. It's where Coors is brewed and Golden is a nice place to spend a few hours.
Ditto Red Rocks, but I don't know if I'd want to see a show there. I need seat backs and they pretty much are just benches. Super pretty though.

So much to do. Our daughter lives there and we are considering it a second home for retirement.
I don’t know where you are exactly considering for a second home. But if it’s in the Breckinridge area look out. I’ve been looking rather seriously for second homes there for about 4 years now. Prices are brutal. I’ve given up at this point and content to rent. Although it’s still a dream of mine.

Virtually all of Colorado has become expensive.

Back to hiking in high altitudes. Really important to acclimatize and hydrate. DS went to Vail to snowboard in 2020 and they sold oxygen pocket cannisters in convenience stores which he found helpful. Two years ago while in Hawaii we took a tour up to near the top of Mauna Kea. The tour van carried oxygen and a pulse oximeter. One of the vans in the group had to put someone on oxygen and go down from altitude promptly when one of the tourists became hypoxic. I checked my Apple Watch periodically and was fine.

The CDC has a nice webpage for options to avoid altitude sickness. Enjoy Colorado!

I am going to Peru shortly (10 days) after leaving Colorado. I'll be in Cusco which is 11,000 feet. Will my month in Colorado help with that? Im planning to hike the Salkantay trail, and the peak is 15,200. I'm going to hike some in Colorado to prepare for that...

I’ve hiked some 14’ers in Colorado. The thing I noticed after you get to about 13,000 ft is a slight headache and your appetite goes away, though you need to still consume calories. So easy to digest energy gels helped vs trying to eat a sandwich or other more solid foods. Just my experience
