Yeah, we paid at least that. It’s definitely a location thing, although our room was nice. The overall property was very nice and the restaurant was superb. Much nicer than the Old Faithful Inn or even the Many Glacier Hotel (but that’s in the best location ever!). But it’s downright cheap compared to places like the Jenny Lake Lodge (Tetons) and Moraine Lake Lodge (Banff). Those run over $1k/night! But we justify staying in those places because we avoided the purchase of an RV. We’re still way ahead by that score!

Rationalization - the easiest path to a clear conscience. :)
El Tovar had the best breakfast by far. We made sure to get there first thing at opening, 6 or 6:30.

We stayed in an Angel Bright Lodge cabin. Tiny/cozy but fantastic location very close to the rim.

The dinner at El Tovar was so so. We preferred the Arizona Steakhouse - both meals were great. We got there at opening time for dinner and got in. Big breakfast and early dinner, we generally skip lunch while traveling, works well for us. We always have some snacks handy.

It doesn’t bother me a bit paying high $ to stay in an incredible location. Obviously the demand is there. And the crowds were gone after 5pm and don’t return until mid morning, so you get to enjoy a much more special time with the best light.
