This weather is awful - 2024 to ?

-5F here in sunny MN. 🥶
When we visited our son when he worked near St Cloud, the whole week was -4, snowy, but the sun was out all day. It was cold but beautiful!

We've had the same here. Next Tuesday we're supposed to get 2"-4" of snow, and I have a Dr. appt. about 25 miles away followed by a trip to a MD pharmacy to pick up a prescription, then home. I'm hoping they'll call and reschedule the Dr. appt. and then I can wait a day for things to clear a bit before I have to pick up the prescription.

Normally I wouldn't be all that concerned about it but about 20 of those miles are on I-81 and it only takes one idiot to block the whole road and then everyone's trapped for maybe hours. I hate that and often go to great lengths to avoid placing myself in a position where that can happen. I might take the long slow route and avoid the interstate for that reason.

It turns out all we received Saturday was light rain... if there was freezing rain overnight, by 7am or so, where we are, it had melted. We have friends about 30 miles north of us who have some slippery spots on their driveway, but not as much as forecast.

Our forecast is for 3-6 inches of snow from late morning Tuesday thru Wednesday morning. Fortunately no medical appointments for us that day, but other plans we are rescheduling to tomorrow.

Snowing in northern Illinois. Supposed to get 3-6" today with more snow Saturday. Cold with lows below zero for the next few days. Can't wait to go out and play in the snow.

It was -24F actual on my short drive to work today. No wind. -28F tonight is expected.

I'm hoping we hit -30F. That sounds colder. :)
I really enjoyed the first season of FARGO (the TV series). I recall several (probably) drone shots of a small town. What I recall is that EVERY chimney had steam rising from it. The implication to me was that it was so cold that every furnace in town was running constantly. I never want to live that reality again but I admire your ability to take the cold in stride.

It was a beautiful day today in the mid 70s so I walked to the end of the street to see the beach. People are out sunbathing, riding bikes, and walking along the surf. During hurricane season it doesn't always look as nice.

Here's a drone shot to revive your memory. This is a few years ago, but it will look about the same in a few hours.

The dawn broke at 17 at the old homestead. I drove 100 miles to the new digs and started working outside, sitting stationary in the unheated forklift. The wind started blowing and there was a weather advisory for wind chill in the teens through tomorrow. I froze up pretty bad with Raynoud's syndrome symptoms.
It is 20's at night 30's in the day with 10 mph winds.
It will get up above freezing by the weekend.

Somehow we went from 80 to 52 overnight. And that’s the predicted high for today. Of course all it takes is a strong north wind.

Oh no! We had a false spring of epic proportions. Looks like at least 2/3 of the country is going to get (is already getting) another winter.

My daffodils and camellias were testing the water with a few bloom pops. They have now all stopped in their tracks and hunkered down.

One of our TV meteorologists joked about this with this meme list. I'm not sure where it came from, but this year it is proving true. We are at "3rd winter" right now. His post from last year:

Currently 32 with wind factor "feels like" 17 and snowing, only expecting 1-2 inches, but freezing rain/sleet expected later to top the snow. Schools closed in anticipation.
No one drives on ice. Or at least, they shouldn't, but some fools will try.

Let's see, we got 3+ inches of rain yesterday. It was 28 here this morning and clear and will get up to near 70 in a few days. Crazy.

Looked out the window, yeah I know, one way to find out what the weather is. Snowing and the leafless trees are swaying a good bit.

Then checked the forecast:

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions. Additional snow accumulations between
4 and 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.

i am enjoying a snowy february with lots of shovel action. grit ice fore and aft of 6 inches snow is making a nice winter for me.

We had to roll up the windows and turn the AC on in the car on the way home from church today. Haven't done that in a while. Nice Kona winds today, though and the apparent is nice and cool. Hoping we don't get too much VOG from the recent eruption at Kilauea.
