This weather is awful - 2024 to ?

We got light snow today. The temperature dropped from 79 a few days ago.

Getting set up for possibly the biggest snowstorm in my lifetime up here this weekend. The record is 21.2 inches and we could be close with this storm. Add in sustained 30mph winds and the blowing/drifting will be crazy. I'm going to maxed out on painkillers to clear out my driveway and my parents driveway. Theirs is like 3 of mine so that's going to be rough. Hopefully this is the last one of the season.
I'm right with you, Aaron. Plus, we're supposed to get an additional 6-10" tonight, along with the 2-3 feet that are forecasted for Sunday.

This one should be interesting.

I'll be thinking about you shovelling. I also have two driveways to do at home, plus DMIL's driveway, which is about a 10-15 minute drive away.

I also hope this one is the last hurrah of the season.

We have 103 predicted for Sunday before a cold front arrives. We’ve been getting some serious compression heating this spring.

Don't tell your wife.
AI is not allowed here but it would be fun to ask it to mock up a cartoon of a human in bed with an open window frame, and a snow-person peaking through the opening in the wall.

EDIT: did it, it was ridiculous but captures the essence of the misplaced modifier joke.

That's warm... We are forecast to hit ~80 this Sunday but back into the lower 30's again on Monday and Tuesday. It was 39 here when I got up this morning.

We are experiencing an "atmospheric river" the last several days, multiple inches of rain, leading to mudslides, downed trees, flooding, risk of avalanches in the mountains. Our main street was closed yesterday due to downed trees. Will have two day reprieve possible Sun/Mon, with another "river" behind it.
The pattern is from Hawaii, but they are still being pummeled.

11-12" so far... Still snowing. Drifts around 16" in spots. Spent 5 hours clearing the driveways, sidewalk, +DMILs driveway.

But this was just the warm up...

Guess where that atmospheric river's going to be on Sunday & Monday?

"...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM SUNDAY TO 4 PM CDT MONDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 14 and 24 inches with localized higher amounts possible. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph may result in near blizzard conditions later Sunday into Monday.

* WHERE...Northeastern Wisconsin.

* WHEN...From 1 AM Sunday to 4 PM CDT Monday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible with potential for whiteout conditions. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches and cause power outages. The Monday morning commute will be impacted.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.People should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.

EF-3 tornado and record 6-8" hail missed us by one county a couple days ago, but we got some small hail, some rain and high winds here. Still very windy with downed trees and my plant obelisk has taken flight. Sunday to start with showers, then thunderstorms and end with 1-3" of snow.

Low in the 40's coming on Tuesday. A few "cold" mornings and then probably not under 50 until December.

Yes, we have a few low mornings next week and hit 49 this morning. We’re trying to get our spring shrubs cleanup and trim done while we have these cooler mornings, because that’s probably it until fall.

Here is a good example of compression heating down here when a cold front moves in. We typically have pretty strong SSE warm winds. Because warm air is less dense than cold air, an approaching cold front compresses the warmer air which makes temperatures rise several degrees. Tomorrow is forecast to reach 103 degrees and you can see it occurs right as the wind is turning around from south to north. Highs on days with southerly winds have recently been more like 93-95 and peak temperatures usually occur around 4pm.

Just got our power back a few hours ago. High winds and heavy rains means trees down and power lines compromised. We were without power for 20 hours. Not fun. SO glad we're always ready for a hurricane (this wasn't that - it was what we call a Kona Low). We have food and lights. Our building has a generator that operates the elevator. We made due with reading by electric lanterns.

Frozen food was getting soft. We'll know soon if we lost food in the fridge/freezer. Maui is really getting it now as the storm slowly drifts eastward.

We had 40-50mph winds last night and kept waking up with scared pups trying to sit on our heads and shoulders.

DH andI have been watching videos of Oahu and Waikiki--crazy!
I thought we were getting hard rain here last week.

Ambulances and fire trucks are putting chains on because too many have gotten stuck. Seems like a good day to stay home.

Now they are dispatching a snow plow with every call requiring an ambulance. This is crazy

Makes me think of my sister and BIL, they've lived the last 30 years in Arizona and Colorado four corners area. They moved back to Eau Claire, Wisconsin to be near family two years ago. I can't imagine how they feel to be back there with a huge March snowstorm after living without snow for so long.

2:30pm, winds are very light, it’s jumped to 98 degrees out and I just turned on the gas grill.

3:05pm, it just hit 101 degrees, fortunately lamb chops are done and inside.

At this rate we might hit the predicted 104 today.

Meanwhile, in western Colorado/southwest Utah, the epically bad snow year and high temperatures continue. Forecast is for zero moisture for the next ten days, and record high temperatures in the low to mid-80's for four days in a row later this week, including possible 90F+ in Grand Junction and Moab. In mid-March.

The fire danger is off the charts in the southern Rockies and plains, as seen in Nebraska, where a wildfire is burning that has destroyed over 600,000 acres so far. This is shaping up to be a terrible fire season.

Every day that there is no moisture, the crisis at Lake Powell, and massive cuts to water users in Arizona, look to be more likely. The gravity of situation at Lake Powell cannot be understated, if the water levels drop as expected, the Feds will have no choice but to start draining upstream reservoirs to keep Lake Powell high enough, they *cannot* let the water level drop below the level where the water goes through the power turbines. Not because of the loss of power, which would be a small impact, but because the alternate method of sending water through the dam creates such a huge engineering risk, that it can't be allowed.

The ca-ca is hitting the Westinghouse, as they used to say.
