I just took the recycling out, and the thermostat said it was 75 inside and 72 outside, but it felt so warm and GROSS outside because the humidity was sky-high! Much nicer in here at ~50% humidity.

It was like that here yesterday, but about 5 degrees cooler. Much cooler this morning in the 50s.

The older I get the less I enjoy the cold. I do my best to avoid it. Finally last year I bought a coat for my excursions to the frozen tundra of the midwest - as early as May and as late as October. BRRRrrrrr!

Western Colorado continues to be in the grip of a bad drought, and the usual summer heat and lack of humidity are kicking in. After a very bad snow winter, our spring precip has been very sparse, many areas are at about 60% of normal precip for the calendar year. Less than four inches of total snow/rain since January 1 where we are at.

Fire danger is very high, rivers are very low, and hay prices are climbing rapidly. We need El Nino to deliver a big monsoon season.

A slow lazy low pressure system brought us 3” of rain two days ago, then moved into the Gulf yesterday morning and promptly organized and sped up. It just became Tropical Storm Arthur, the first named storm of the 2026 season. It will bring a lot of rain to east TX and LA but is not expected to maintain tropical storm strength very long.

Today is predicted 100, tomorrow 104 ! After that back to the upper 90s which is pretty moderate here for this time of year.

Made me look. Sacramento - High of 90 today, humidity only 48%. Low tonight will be 58. Mild "delta breeze" that comes in thru the Golden Gate gap in the coast range. Nice day.

Another couple of inches of rain yesterday. 7th wettest month on record since our HOA started tracking rainfall and lake levels 14 years ago. And more rain most likely to come before the end of the month.

Finally getting some rain here in the last couple of weeks. About 2.75 inches is a big deal for us. This native grass has a lot of power and only needs a little to prosper. Been 40's at night and 60's during the day. Been great weather and enjoying the outdoors each day to the fullest.

We are already about twice the normal rain for June, with about 1.8" forecast for today.

Raining here today and so far about 20/100's. We never complain about o much rain is this country. We actually have dessert humidity most of the year as a norm. My new alfalfa stand is looking good after I irrigated it and the rain but three weeks ago it was brown and dying.

Thanks - yes Illinois has had more than its share of tornadoes this year. We had a mini drought around June 1. Now some areas around here are having some flooding/ crop damage from some higher than normal rains.

Your alfalfa is looking great - amazing how plants recover once they get some water.

Looks like summer "weather" officially started this afternoon, as our PM2.5 readings have exploded from the teens to near 200 in just a couple of hours. It's very smoking outside and it looks like the Cottonwood fire in Utah is to blame (750 acres yesterday and currently at 24,000 acres). I knew it was coming soon, so we have been hiking a lot in the mountains this month to get it in before smoke season started.

I've forgotten what level of PM2.5 are considered bothersome and then hazardous. As a rule, I'm not bothered by particulates except certain pollens which set off my hay fever.

Fires are starting all over Colorado and Utah.

Three firefighters lost and two seriously injured just west of Grand Junction where the latest measurement shows the Snyder fire at over 30,000 acres.

There is a new fire near Leadville that just started this afternoon and it is already over 1000 acres. A fire near Ouray is 4200 acres. Down by Dolores there are two fires consuming 10,000 acres, and west of there in Monticello, UT there is a 16,000 acres fire. There are still the even larger fires in Utah south of Richfield covering over 100,000 acres.

No rain in sight, winds 30-50 mph, super low humidity. Air quality is terrible.

This is going to be a long week.

My understanding is that in France, AC is only in about a fourth of homes. I spent my youth without AC. I wouldn't want to do that again (at least not on the mainland USA). AC is rarely needed in the Islands if housing is aligned with the Trades.
