I was filing the first tax return this year using Intuit desktop.

It said the State filing fee could be paid from the Federal refund, which is great and saves me getting the persons credit card #.
But as I progress along to file, later when asking do I want to pay the $25 State filing fee by CC or refund (it has "pay by refund" as default highlighted button) it says "$40 refund processing fee". :nonono:
There was no mention of this fee when this choice was first mentioned. I was nearly tricked.

I used my CC instead to save $40 !!

Then I get to actual button to file the return and click it and get the following image show, which certainly got me excited as I hadn't done any e-files yet!! I clicked continue after a bit of stewing and the next page said everything had been submitted. Glad I didn't fall for the trick of phoning.
They only need to show this image AFTER someone has done 5 e-files.

They scam so many people with that $40 processing fee, I saw some complaints on Reddit. I think they've been fined in the past for similar reasons but probably have now refined the language to where they can get away with it. It is clearly stated as an option with the additional charge but some people just don't bother to read it thoroughly. I didn't see any mention of it but other people were saying that if you use that service you also get your refund faster. I got my Federal refund this year in 3 days just paying with my credit card and the state refund just a few days later.

Intuit software has been a ripoff for decades, I see nothing has changed.

I'm ashamed to admit I'm an AARP Tax Volunteer and can use their Taxslayer program and e-file for free and yet I still buy Turbo Tax to do my taxes every year. Crazy I know but my daughter also uses my copy and she doesn't want to change so I just keep buying it every year. I've ran both programs as well as Dinkytown and IRS calculators online and they all come up with the same numbers within a couple of dollars

I set this tax return to pay the State taxes due by ACH using a bank account. It's only now that I wonder does Intuit charge for that as well

I'm hoping I didn't miss some little print somewhere. :ermm:
