I just started Medicare and I signed-up for AARP Medicare Supplement from United Healthcare. I'm looking at claims, and found small differences in what I'm seeing on the medicare.gov site versus the myAARPMedicare.com site. I just wondered if everyone is seeing this, or something on my account is strange.

When I compare the medicare.gov "provider paid" / "plan paid" values between the two, AARP is saying Medicare paid 2.00% more than what medicare.gov said they paid. So by saying Medicare paid more than they actually (or claim to have actually) paid, on one example claim, AARP ended-up paying the provider $5.10 less than if they'd used the medicare provider paid amount.

When I compare the medicare.gov "approved" amount, with the AARP medigap "approved" amount, AARP is saying the approved amount is 0.20% higher than what is on the medicare.gov site. So by having a higher value, on that same example claim, they paid $0.49 less than if they'd used the medicare approved amount.

The above is consistent in all of the handful of claims from May. The handful of claims from June match the approved amount exactly, but the "provider paid" is off by 1.66% (instead of 2.00%).

So on my example claim, AARP/UHC ended-up paying out $5.59 less than expected to the provider. The facility bill to me has a zero balance for that service, so it's not coming out of my pocket, but it looks like the AARP medigap is not paying as much as they should, and the facility is eating the difference.

I was able to download claims from Download my data | Medicare, and by going to UnitedHealthcare and clicking the "Download Claims (CSV)" button on the bottom of the page.

I've been with AARP/UHC since 2019. This occurs on just about every claim. I just ignore it as AARP/UHC ends up paying what they should to satisfy the provider regardless of what AARP/UHC say Medicare paid.

I don't understand why the Medicare amounts don't match the AARP/UHC statements, but it is usually just a few dollars and cents.

It makes no difference to us as it all settles out fine.

I was puzzled by it when I first started Medicare last year, but have decided to ignore it since, as the above post says, no impact to moi.

^That answers it quite definitively. Thanks, all, for sharing your wisdom/experience.
