hi, first time post here from German/UK cpl. My sister in-law lives in CO and we have done some road trips in hired car over the years (last year Florida) but are considering an extended camper trip, over 2 to 3 months. We haven't decide on which states yet and are flexible on time of the year, just looking for some general advice or recommendations on reasonable cost hire companies and possible routes to take. Sorry not specific but putting ideas together now.

Welcome to the Forum. Some one will likely come along and make suggestions. The times I have looked into renting a camper it has been ridiculously expensive. Our son bought a used camper to use for several months and then sold it at a profit. Not to say you can do that, but it's something to consider. Good luck.

I know people who have rented through Outdoorsy (Google it,). It connects people with camper vans and those that rent it. Kind of kind Airbnb... But for van life.

You can't go wrong renting a camper van. The Dodge Ram and Mercedes Sprinter van versions have all the bells and whistles and are easy to drive. There are a lot of companies across the USA that modify and rent them. Just googling Denver I see that this company has good reviews: Denver
Since your relatives live in CO, you probably know the area a bit, but the entire western USA is just amazing ... Our favorite areas are Northern New Mexico, the Arizona/Utah 4 corners region, and of course Montana (the entire state ...but Glacier N.P. shouldn't be missed). Yellowstone N.P. is good, but you have to visit it in the spring or fall to avoid the craziness of peak season. The same thing goes for Yosemite .. at all costs avoid the summer time ... wait for the kids to be back in school after late August. The Pacific North West (Northern CA, Oregon, Washington) is probably the greatest place to visit in all the USA in the summer time with its outstanding weather and less visitors (I'm biased of course).

Hopefully people will chime in regarding the spot rentals, as I know I looked when we were thinking of buying a camper, and the rental of a spot was a lot higher than I had imagined.
Add in the horrible gas mileage of 10 mpg and of course other costs, and it was cheaper to stay at hotels. Obviously not high end hotels, but living in a camper is not high end either !

hi Sunset, have decided to do a road trip in October to see the Fall, after a few days in DC, by car, as you suggest. We still want to plan a camper/RV trip, possibly mid next year, once we can find a reasonable priced fuel efficient one. Yes they are expensive. Car hire fairly resonable.
