Vacations you haven't taken yet but hope/plan to

We will be doing a cruise, next year, out of Barcelona visiting Spain and Portugal. After that, not sure if it'll happen but I'd like to do Scandinavia cruise, and separately Iceland. DW not enthusiastic about either of those last 2, so I'm not optimistic!
Also hoping to see (likely via cruises) Panama Canal, Bonaire, Curacao.
When we did a cruise out of Barcelona, we went early and spent 10 days in Barcelona, seeing many of the sites on our own via bus and 1 subway train trip outside the city. Absolutely wonderful. We stayed at a low cost hotel ($100/night) not in tourist areas but very handy to buses (which are great there).

8 WEEKS? Must be nice!
If we have a long flight, we strive to make it worthwhile; it is rare for us to make trips of less than a month--particularly when the Pacific is involved. (And we retired to travel; even our domestic trips tend to be more than a month.)

That trip, we flew into Fiji, dove a week on one island, then flew coach to Auckland after arranging to store our gear. On return, we flew coach back to Fiji, dove another week on a different island, then flew back to the USA. The discount in flying Air Fiji Business vs. going direct to Auckland in that class almost paid for the diving!

My list of places I want to go but not already planned:

Petra (Jordan)
Morocco
Iceland
Buenos Aries
And back to Thailand... We had to cut our trip short this past February when DHs mother passed. Fortunately we'd already been to Singapore and Siem Reap prior to flying to Phuket. We're missed the rest of Thailand (had 3 weeks planned to hit Chiang Main, Chaing Rai, and Bangkok.

For the planned future trips:

NYC for 10 days in January. Have a few shows already booked.

Have a trip in planning stages for the north rim of the Grand canyon for next year. I've been to the Grand Canyon almost a dozen times, but never the north rim.

Have a trip planning for 2.5 months in Florence in the fall. Was supposed to happen this fall but DH is going through treatment for prostate cancer so we had to postpone. That trip will involve language school culminating with taking the CILS livello B1 exam that I need for dual citizenship.....

As for the comments about 8 weeks being a long trip.... We prefer longer trips with more time at the destination than spent traveling there. We rent apartments and live like locals.

Petra had the bluest sky I've ever seen.

Washington DC - maybe get an apartment for a month to see all the sites
Road trip all the National Parks (NPs) in California.
Road trip all the NPs and such in the northern half of Arizona.
Road trip Zion and Bryce
Road trip the Ca, Or, Wa coast
See the northern lights really well, probably in Alaska

I use to think I wanted to travel abroad, but I have come to realize the US has so many amazing places. I have been to 10-20 foreign countries and lived in Germany for 2 years. I really like the US. There is still plenty here to see.

My wife and I discuss this subject often. We have honestly been everywhere we want to go. Being pampered is becoming a priority. Putting up with crowded tourist areas a lot less so. The last cruise to bucket list locations we went on put us off, we stayed on board for a lot of the ports of call. We decided it was grossly overrated. Staying on board when all the rabble were out on excursions appealed to us a lot more. Great uncrowded premium eating venues, uncrowded observation decks, you name it. Probably the way to go in future.

We’re probably done with extensive travel, fortunately I’ve seen most of Europe and parts of Asia already.

We’re going to spend a few days on Isle of Palms SC to see what that’s like. Nothing exotic, just a change of scenery. And we know we enjoy Charleston SC if we get bored with Isle of Palms.

Your post reminds me of something I want to do that I didn't mention in my first reply: transatlantic cruise. To me, the worst part about cruises are those ports of call: being herded off and on like cattle, having to watch the clock, etc. I'd love to just spend time at sea with nothing really to do.

I don't currently have any vacations planned, but recently thought about the Finger Lakes. I would need a rental with a recliner, and preferably a nice view.

N&S Dakota, Idaho, Montana, Alaska. My last states to visit yet.
North Dakota is my last. We biked through parts of the badlands a few years ago, but never made it farther north.

About 30 years ago, the young wife and I spent time at this hotel on the shore of Seneca Lake https://genevaonthelake.com/ We loved the hotel and the surrounding area.

We've had a dream to ski champagne powder in Japan for more than 10 years.

Heading to the Hakuba Valley for a week of backcountry guided skiing in Feb.

I’ve been on 6 cruises and they are really fun. We always spend 4 days before and after exploring the town we are leaving or arriving at. Often it’s someplace we haven’t been to. We have left from Boston twice and each time it was easy to spend 4 days seeing the sights.

You'll love it. We did a similar trip (albeit Hokkaido) 5 years ago and it was amazing. It never stopped snowing.

Alaska on an UnCruise spending about 10 - 14 days in Alaska. Were looking at June 2026. We would likely want a guide to show us all the sights and sounds. Were in the early stages just looking at options. If anyone has suggestions, please chime in.

Our “Go-to” vacation place is Cancun (we are here now) and Costa Rica (Tamarindo).

Starting to branch out to other locations now. Headed to Columbia after Thanksgiving for a couple weeks. Haven’t been there before.

We did an UnCruise out of Juneau in June 2021. A great way to see South East Alaska IMO. There were no big ships in port yet which made the experience even better. If you want to see SE Alaska take a cruise. If you want to experience it, UnCruise.

We also joined a vaccinated-only "Hike the Kenai" tour in September 2021 where we did hikes around various spots in Seward, Homer, Anchorage, and Whittier. That tour is no longer available but similar tours are offered by Intrepid/G Adventures/Tauck/Abercrombie, pick your price point. The hike to the base of the icefields at Exit Glacier was a highlight with 4000 feet of elevation gain in 4 hours to absolutely stunning views of the glacier. We opted out of an optional float trip to see bears and that was a mistake. The people who went didn't stop talking about it. That specific tour isn't available but you can piece it together with day trips found on Viator. You could rent a car and book days in Seward, Homer, and Anchorage and do day trips and maybe a day fishing. Our guide advised us that trying to do Denali and the Kenai in a week would be a mistake as the driving distances would eat up your trip.

We've been to Alaska 4 times now and there's still lots to see. Enjoy your trip!

The cold warrior in me wants to visit Cuba and North Korea, mainly to people watch and see what life is like there. NK is too dangerous for US citizens and Cuba is a place I just never got around to visiting.

We traveled Alaska with UnCruise the inside passage, and the Denali addon. All had guides provided. In Denali we stayed at Kantishna Roadhouse, great guided hikes.

I saw Cuba from a Cruise Ship - That was close enough for me (about 14 miles IIRC.)

If you are going up to Denali, I recommend taking a helicopter tour. It is very expensive, but an incredible way to see the mountain.
