It's a trick I learned from looking at the historical gameplay of this solver: Solver - Squareword Tools

These days, if I have figured out a word, I try to remember to look for other words that have the same missing letters, but that have different letters from the ones that are already on the board. The puzzle above (#1015) had a "--tch" word, so finding 2 different starting letters was easy. I also relied on the fact that (by then) I knew there was a repeated letter in the first column, so I could later kill 2 birds with one stone.
