I am getting a little better at this tactic: When you know what a word is, find a differnt word that has the letters that you need, but has different letters for the ones that are already filled in. This allows you to more quickly determine which letters are in the other words.

Yeah, the tactic is a little hard to explain in the abstract, but simple to convey with a concrete example!

Let's say that you have an incomplete horizontal word that reads: ?ham? (where ? indicates a blank space). And let's say from other clues and information, you think the desired word is "champ." Rather than enter the desired target word, instead enter "crisp." You will still complete the target word, but now you will have uncovered r, i, and s in the remaining words.
