Waffle: Even easier than Wordle

But it's the wrong word, so you have lost a turn. I don't see how that results in a score of six.

No, you don't lose a turn. The correct letters get filled in, but the pre-existing correct letters just stay there, so you complete that word in that turn.

I don't know how I managed to pull this one out. I got one of the words completely wrong and did two swaps based on that wrong word.

Thanks!

I am getting a little better at this tactic: When you know what a word is, find a differnt word that has the letters that you need, but has different letters for the ones that are already filled in. This allows you to more quickly determine which letters are in the other words.
Thanks for sharing this tip!

Think of a Squareword row as an array of letters, which is different than a word.
Getting 5 letters in the correct slots is not necessarily the same as inputting the right word.

If 3 letters are already in the correct slots, you only need to get the 2 missing slots filled with the correct letters.
Ex: ?HAM? (where the belief is that the β€œright” word is CHAMP.
Substitute the 3 known letters in the correct slots ideally for 3 different unused letters in those slots.
Ex: CRISP

You will still get a β€œWin” for that row because all the slots will have the correct letters, and you will gain more information to help fill the other words, without losing a turn.

I hope this helps. Stress can really do a number on a person!

Too bad that Squareword uses a wider variety of words than I can deal with. I have enough problems with American/British words, much less Australian/Indian/South African words, especially slang!

Rough day at the office!

Even though I had the words figure out:

If HAM is already in place how do you substitute other letters?

You simply type the letters CRISP. The HAM will stay where they are. Squareword will fill the "C" in the first spot, leave the H, A, and M where they are, and then fill in the P in the last spot, and give you credit for "CHAMP."

Oh! And then you can see if there's no ISR. I get it now. Thanks for the patient explanation :) Something to try, when an appropriate set of letters appears.

How about opening today's SW in another browser and mucking about with it? (Just to convince yourself it works as I claim.)

BTW, because of this discussion, I got distracted today! I tried mightily to just that strategy, when a little good-ol'-fashioned chin-stroking would have paid more dividends!

I might do that, when I have a moment for mucking around ;^>
